Summary of Responsibilities: Performs a wide range of facilities services tasks including maintenance, repair, and construction of plumbing, carpentry, cabinetry, wall-finishing, painting, floor installation, tile, shower installation, masonry, electrical. This position will primarily be assigned to work on special projects.


Essential Responsibilities: (These essential responsibilities are those the individual must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation.)

  • Renovation of buildings, rooms, and apartments – Full responsibility from rough construction to final finishes.
  • Performs carpentry maintenance tasks including routine sheetrock/drywall installation and/or repair, window replacement, cabinet, countertop replacement, floor installation, moldings, painting and texturing, and door and hardware installation, lock repairs, key making and room code changing.
  • Paints interior and exterior finishes, as appropriate.
  • General maintenance, custodial, and trash removal tasks.
  • Installation and repair of kitchen equipment.
  • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Documents facilities maintenance requirements and maintains appropriate records of work performed.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  • Supervision:
    • Supervise student employees to include training, planning, assigning/directing work, coaching, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.
    • Must have a mindset of mentoring employees under supervision. Should be able to lead in a way that sets a good example, promotes teamwork, and encourages a positive, efficient work environment.

Job Requirements - Labor:

  • General: Individuals must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed or are able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential responsibilities of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations in order to safely perform the essential responsibilities of the job. Typical work hours are between 8:30 am to 5 pm, subject to change at management’s discretion according to departmental & project needs.
  • Physical: Should be able to perform the following and similar physical demands in completing work tasks: walking, climbing, stooping, reaching, pushing, feeling, crawling, crouching, lifting, pulling, standing, kneeling, carrying, handling, talking, hearing, seeing, and sitting. Able to regularly lift up to 75lbs.
  • Confidentiality: Individuals must recognize that management of data, including personal information, grades, budgets, programs, and policies is necessary to the operation of the College. Such information must be kept private and confidential for the protection of the College and to obey Federal and/or State laws. Should there be doubt as to whether a certain matter is to be protected, it should be discussed with your supervisor before making a disclosure.
  • Mental: Must be able to reason, analyze, prioritize, conceptualize, make judgments, and solve problems.
  • Driving: Valid current driver’s license and ability to meet and maintain insurability requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum:
    • Education/Certification: High school diploma or GED.
    • Experience: At least 3 year of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
    • Skill/Abilities:
      • Skills necessary to perform a wide range of building maintenance and renovation/construction.
    • Christian Commitment: An eligible candidate must be a thoughtful and articulate Christian and an active member of a Protestant evangelical Christian church. Preference will be given to the candidate who supports and has an articulate understanding of the Reformed faith. An eligible candidate must understand and support the College’s “Foundational Concepts of Christian Education” by expressing an evangelical Christian profession of faith and demonstrate the ability to integrate a Christian perspective in their work.
  • Preferred:
    • Education/Certification: Trade school and/or apprenticeship in construction industry.
    • Experience: 5 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
    • Skill/Abilities:
      • Repairing electrical fixtures, switches, and outlets.
      • Repairing leaking fixtures, cleaning obstructed lines, replacing windows, painting.
      • Skills obtained through working in a higher education setting.
      • Project planning and management experience
