Summary of Responsibilities: The part-time editor position for The Cabinet newspaper is a temporary position to fill the need for Spring 2025. This position involves assigning and editing news articles, managing student writers, and using software to create Geneva College’s student newspaper, The Cabinet.
The editor is responsible for assigning news and feature articles to students enrolled in COM 209, editing articles written by students, using Adobe InDesign software to create and design The Cabinet newspaper publication, scheduling for the newspaper to be printed, and delivering the printed edition throughout campus.

- Customer Service:
- Adequately prepare students for a future career in journalism
- Provide the student staff with clear expectations, evaluations and timelines through carefully written topical outlines and approved, standardized syllabi
- Provide interesting and relevant news and feature writing assignments for students that demonstrate learning outcomes in a real-life setting
- Suitably challenge, engage, serve and communicate with students to encourage their participation and learning while maintaining mutual value and respect
- Respond to student questions on a timely basis
- Ensure course and program learning outcomes are delivered as defined by the syllabus
- Supervision:
- Supervise student employees to include training, planning, assigning, and directing work, coaching, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Must have a mindset of mentoring employees under supervision. Should be able to lead in a way that sets a good example, promotes teamwork, and encourages a positive, efficient work environment.

Qualifications:
- Minimum:
- Education/Certification: Enrolled in, or graduate of Geneva College.
- Experience: Candidate must have experience as the student editor of The Cabinet newspaper at Geneva College.
- Skill/Abilities: Assigning and editing news articles, managing student writers, and using software to create Geneva College’s student newspaper, The Cabinet.
- Christian Commitment: eligible candidates must be thoughtful and articulate Christians and an active member of a Protestant evangelical Christian church. Preference will be given to candidates who support and have an articulate understanding of the Reformed faith. The individual must understand and support the College’s “Foundational Concepts of Christian Education” by expressing an evangelical Christian profession of faith and demonstrate the ability to integrate a Christian perspective in their work.
