Position: Senior Tax Manager – Real Estate
Chicago, Loop, 3 days a week in office
Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Tax Manager to lead our corporate tax functions and oversee Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) tax compliance within a dynamic real estate company. This role involves managing complex tax matters, ensuring compliance with regulations, and providing strategic tax planning to support the company's growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee preparation and filing of corporate tax returns and REIT tax returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.
- Manage REIT compliance, including income and asset testing, to maintain REIT status.
- Develop and implement tax strategies to optimize efficiency and support long-term business goals.
- Conduct tax planning, forecasting, and analysis to minimize tax liabilities and mitigate risks.
- Partner with accounting and finance teams to provide tax expertise during month-end and year-end close processes.
- Lead audits and respond to inquiries from tax authorities.
- Stay informed about changes in tax laws and regulations affecting the real estate industry, incorporating these into tax planning and compliance efforts.
- Mentor and supervise team members, providing guidance and professional development opportunities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in corporate tax within the real estate or investment management industry.
- Comprehensive knowledge of U.S. federal and state tax regulations, with a focus on REIT compliance.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex tax laws and regulations.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in tax software and ERP systems.
