Overview:
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to join our team as a part-time VEX IQ After School Coach. As a coach, you will be responsible for guiding and mentoring students in the exciting world of robotics, specifically focusing on the VEX IQ platform. This role involves working with elementary and middle school students, providing guidance, support, and instruction to help them develop STEM skills, problem-solving abilities, teamwork, and a passion for robotics.
Responsibilities:
- Facilitate VEX IQ Robotics Sessions: Lead after-school sessions dedicated to VEX IQ robotics, guiding students through hands-on activities, challenges, and projects.
- Curriculum Implementation: Implement a structured curriculum to teach fundamental robotics concepts, programming skills, and engineering principles using VEX IQ equipment and software.
- Mentorship and Support: Provide individual and group mentoring to students, offering guidance on design, construction, programming, and troubleshooting of robots.
- Team Development: Assist in the formation and management of VEX IQ teams, fostering collaboration, teamwork, and cooperation among team members.
- Competition Preparation: Prepare students for VEX IQ competitions by organizing practice matches, refining strategies, and ensuring teams are ready for competitive events.
- Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and organize VEX IQ equipment, ensuring it is in good working condition and readily available for sessions and competitions.
- Communication: Regularly communicate with students, parents, and school administrators to provide updates on progress, upcoming events, and achievements.
- Safety Compliance: Uphold safety standards during robotics activities, ensuring a safe and secure environment for all participants.
Qualifications:
- Passion for STEM education and robotics, with experience in VEX IQ or similar robotics programs preferred.
- Strong communication skills to effectively engage with students, parents, and school staff.
- Experience working with elementary and/or middle school students in an educational or mentoring capacity.
- Proficiency in robotics concepts, programming (block-based or text-based), and hands-on experience with VEX IQ components is advantageous.
- Ability to manage groups of students, encourage teamwork, and foster a positive learning environment.
- Flexible schedule to accommodate after-school sessions and occasional weekend events (competitions, showcases, etc.).
