Position Overview:
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Volunteer Softball Coach to lead our 14U travel softball team. The coach will be responsible for developing players' skills, fostering teamwork, and creating a positive and competitive environment. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in softball and a commitment to youth development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coaching and Player Development:
- Plan and conduct regular practices, focusing on skill development, game strategy, and physical conditioning.
- Provide individual instruction to help players improve their batting, fielding, pitching, and base-running techniques.
- Create a positive, supportive, and inclusive team environment that encourages sportsmanship, teamwork, and a love for the game.
- Monitor player progress and adjust coaching methods to meet the needs of each athlete.
- Game Management:
- Prepare the team for competitions, including game strategies and line-ups.
- Manage the team during games, making real-time decisions that will benefit the team’s performance.
- Encourage and support players during games, maintaining a focus on both development and winning.
- Team Organization:
- Communicate regularly with players, parents, and the team manager regarding practice schedules, games, tournaments, and other team events.
- Ensure all players understand team rules and expectations.
- Assist with organizing and managing team travel, including coordinating logistics for away games and tournaments.
- Administrative Duties:
- Assist with player tryouts and team selection.
- Work with the team manager and other volunteers to handle team-related administrative tasks.
- Ensure the team adheres to all league rules and regulations.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Promote a safe playing environment by enforcing safety rules and guidelines.
- Ensure that all equipment is in good condition and that players use it properly.
- Understand and enforce concussion protocols and injury management procedures.
Qualifications:
- Softball Experience: Prior experience playing or coaching softball at the youth, high school, or collegiate level.
- Leadership: Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate young athletes.
- Communication: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey instructions and feedback.
- Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks, schedules, and responsibilities.
- CPR/First Aid Certification: Preferred but not required.
- Background Check: Must pass a background check, as required by the organization.
Commitment:
- Practice: 2-3 practices per week.
- Games: Weekend games and occasional weeknight games, including travel to tournaments.
- Season Duration: Spring, Summer, and Fall seasons, with a small commitment in the Winter.
