What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Production Supervisor position at Genpak LLC?
Objective of Position: The Assistant Production Supervisor will have the responsibility of stepping into and replacing the Supervisor as needed. The Assistant Production Supervisor will also work all production lines and have the abilities to assist and train the Line Operators and Operator Trainees.
Safety:

. Compliance with all facility safety rules and regulations.
. Reporting any unsafe practices and/or conditions to their supervisor.
. Maintaining floor safety discipline by interceding with fellow employees, who may engage in rule violations and/or unsafe, unhealthy activities.
. Communicating to management those employees who persist in violations of safety rules and/or procedures.
. Wearing required personal protective equipment properly and reporting any defective PPE.
. Reporting all near misses, accidents, injuries or illnesses, including Muscular Skeletal symptoms or disorders.
. Responsible for following established lock out/tag out procedures. All equipment and machinery shall be locked or tagged out before an employee places any body part in equipment during servicing or maintenance where the unexpected energization, start-up or release of stored energy, could cause injury.
. Support 6's initiatives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. The Assistant Production Supervisor will have the responsibility of replacing the Supervisor for vacations and PTO days.
2. The Assistant Production Supervisor will need to conduct themselves in a way that represents management as they will be a direct extension of Shift supervision and will work closely with the management team.
3. As the Assistant Production Supervisor on the shift part of your job will be help Supervision drive home the importance of safety, help to assure that everyone is compliant with our lock out tag out program and take a leadership role as safety is and always will be our number one priority here at Genpak Carthage.
4. The Assistant Production Supervisor will fill in for the Operator or Operator Trainee for vacations and absences on his shift to avoid the use of overtime if and where practical.
5. Maintain a safe working environment within the department including all Thermoforming lines and auxiliary equipment.
6. The Assistant Production Supervisor will ensure the importance of a quality product being produced on all production lines and assist the Line Operators in taking the responsibility of doing so on their given lines. They are required to know the quality specifications for the product being produced and remain in close communication with the Line Operators in the event of any quality issues that may come up throughout the shift.
7. The Assistant Production Supervisor will ensure the importance of housekeeping and assist the Supervisor in making sure all our employees follow this policy as well. A clean working environment is a safe working environment.
8. Communication is a requirement to receive all necessary information needed daily from supervision to effectively maintain the productivity within the department. Communication with the oncoming shift is also essential and can be done in verbal and written form.
9. The Assistant Production Supervisor will need to be able to complete all the shift paperwork required when taking over the as the acting Supervisor. This includes daily production reports, material inventories and any other required reports. Assisting Fellow operators with their paperwork and the training of properly filling out the paperwork will also be a requirement.
10. The Assistant Production Supervisor will have the responsibility of training new operators, starting with safety as the number one priority and the ability to follow lock out tag out procedures. Producing the highest quality product as efficiently as we can at the lowest cost.
11. Knowledge of production rates for all product being produced. CPM must be monitored throughout the shifts on all lines and maintained at the standard level. Monitor waste and develop a plan to reduce scrap being produced.
12. Knowledge of resins, additives, packaging, labeling and code dating of product being produced. Responsible for providing direction in order to produce product with the right materials required for the job.
13. The Assistant Production Supervisor will help monitor the lines to be able to give direction in keeping filters clean, oilers filled, silicone tanks properly mixed and filled.
14. Troubleshoot issues that directly involve line performance and be able to train new operators to be able to do the same.
15. Direct Operators, Packers and Utilities in a manner that utilizes them efficiently.
16. Work with maintenance on troubleshooting line issues and changeovers. Assist maintenance with machine repairs if possible. Preparations for startups after changeovers will be the direct responsibility of the lead operator either by doing it on their own or providing direction to the Line Operator. Procuring the correct set up
sheet, setting the line to the setup sheet, gap the die and the chrome rolls and all other tasks related for a quick start up.
17. Assistant Production Supervisor's will manage the unloading of railcars to effect rapid turnover of cars.
18. Any other job duty assigned by your Supervisor that has a direct effect on a given production line that can reasonably be performed in a safe manner.
