What are the responsibilities and job description for the Technical Designer - Mid Level position at Gensler?
Your Role
As a Gensler Designer with our team in Washington, D.C., your job is to combine creativity and technical knowledge with business skills and understanding to produce functionally beautiful spaces for our incredible clients. With you as part of the team, our designs have never been so engaging.
What You Will Do
- Collaborate on interior architecture and interior design projects that include programming client needs, conceptual design, schematic design, design development, space planning, and management of budgets and schedules
- Coordinate with Interior Designers, Project Architects and Project Managers to deliver project milestones
- Provide project team coordination for finish plans, specifications, and material selections needed for construction
- Provide design support and documentation during completion and execution of design concepts
- Work with external consultants, product representatives, furniture dealers, consultants, and fabricators to meet overall project objectives
- Assist in managing client expectations, team communication and consultant coordination
- Establish and maintain ongoing, productive client relationships
- Provide guidance, mentorship and training to teammates as needed
Your Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Interior Design or Interior Architecture from an accredited program
- 5-7 years of relevant (interior architecture for workplaces) professional experience, ideally inclusive of all phases through construction administration
- Proficient in Revit, SketchUp, AutoCAD, 3D and other modeling software programs
- Strong knowledge of the design process, including FF E, furniture systems and specifications, color and materials
- Outstanding conceptual 3-dimensional thinking and graphic presentation skills to effectively communicate design ideas
- Knowledge of Photoshop, Enscape, Illustrator, InDesign, SPEXX a plus
- Flexibility to focus on concurrent projects in various stages of development
- Ability to communicate design ideas and direction quickly
- A quick learner with an ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment
- Strong leadership, organization, communication and relationship management skills
- Demonstrated commitment to sustainability and sustainable building practices; If possible, portfolios should include at least one project (especially built projects with LEED, Living Building Challenge, WELL Building Standard, Fitwel, and/or Net Zero Building certification) with this particular focus, which we look forward to discussing during the interview
- Licensed/Registered Architect, NCARB, LEED GA or AP preferred
