What are the responsibilities and job description for the Technical Director - Architecture position at Gensler?
We are seeking a Technical Director - Architecture to join an exciting, large-scale, mixed-use (including: commercial, residential, cultural, transit, retail, entertainment, hospitality, education, etc.) international project, offering the opportunity to be an integrated and active member of a diverse, multi-disciplinary team, working alongside multiple Gensler. This role will sit in the Chicago office.
What You Will Do
Develop quality management protocols which will enable the office to produce extremely high quality production drawings and specifications
Develop quality review processes which can be implemented at specific points during Schematic Design, Design Development and Construction Documents Phases of Design
Oversee all technical aspects of design and quality management
Serve as the office senior technical advisor, and provide mentorship to staff
Resolve complex technical/design issues and provide guidance to team and consultants
Contribute with other technical leaders across the firm to ensure firm's technical standards and restrictions are being applied.
Oversee all aspects of construction administration throughout office
Lead weekly staff meetings with those staff involved with Construction Administration to review status of Change Orders, Requests For Information, and Submittals.
Work with project managers to address issues such as scheduling and staffing
Attend Owner, Architect, Contractor(OAC) meetings as necessary, specifically on large projects
Have experience with a wide spectrum of construction types, including those associated with mixed use, retail, government, sports and office buildings, as well as corporate interiors.
Work closely with the office leadership including Principals, Design Directors and Project Managers.
Work closely with Gensler legal counsel on all legal issues related to design and construction
Lead, develop, and mentor architectural design teams
Collaborate with colleagues and leaders on business development
Your Qualifications
Architectural Registration required.
Professional Degree in Architecture.
20 minimum years of experience in architectural practice.
International design experience a plus
Excellent communication and management skills. Ability to work collaboratively with staff members and clients.
Demonstrated experience in construction document preparation, bid review, construction administration and field observation.
Must be able to multi-task, be a team player, possess a can-do attitude, be a self-starter with a passion for mentoring and teaching.
Bluebeam Revu, Microsoft Excel and Word experience preferred. Revit, Navisworks and AutoCad knowledge are a plus.
Strong knowledge of local and national building codes, standards, and regulations.
Extensive experience in Construction Administration, knowledge of construction contracts, and construction types and systems (including roofing/waterproofing, exterior enclosures, and primary building systems, and CA software).
LEED accreditation is preferred.
