Position Purpose:
Under the general supervision of the building principal and oversight of the Special Education LEA, the teacher provides instruction to students, facilitates student success and growth in academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and interpersonal skills through implementing district approved curriculum; documents teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addresses specific educational needs of individual students and by creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and provides prompt and consistent feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, and goals. The teacher in this position will be required to provide instruction in small groups and in a general education setting with one or more team teachers and will be expected to develop, contribute to, and support a positive, inclusive culture in which ALL students learn. It is expected that ALL students will learn.
Specific Job Duties/Responsibilities:
Instructional:
- Provide instruction in all areas of curriculum according to individual student’s IEP
- Collaborate with general educators and team to provide support in all classes
- Collaborate with other teachers in Professional Learning Communities
- Serve as a resource to other teachers
- Implement literacy instruction aligned to the Science of Reading
- Implement Math instruction aligned to Quest
- Design and provide instruction in all academic, behavioral, communicative, and social/emotional domains to help students reach their goals
- Work with behavioral and academic intervention teams to assist with concerns regarding students
- Perform achievement screenings and diagnostic assessments as needed
- Implement a variety of effective, research based instructional strategies consistently to engage learners with the essential learning standards
- Monitor and assess student progress frequently, using both formative and summative assessments, and provide progress reports as requested
- Be organized and able to effectively complete paperwork and adhere to workflow expectations
- Coordinate with other buildings to ensure smooth transitions for students

Organizational:
- Be organized and complete required federal paperwork under IDEA provisions including the IEP and annual review
- Schedule and direct meetings with parents and staff regarding the student’s learning and progress
- Maintain state and district timeline requirements for all paperwork
Professional:
- Support and adhere to the district’s Mission, Vision, and Values
- Effectively implement district initiatives
- Work with educators, parents, support staff, administration, and teams to support and educate children with disabilities
- Attend required professional development
- Work with colleagues to maintain and support instructional and behavioral plans
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations
- Attend meetings and perform duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
