Head Boys Basketball Coach/Teacher

Qualifications:

• Must meet Arkansas licensure requirements
• Ability to lift at least 40 pounds occasionally
• Capable of prolonged standing, walking, sitting, occasional reaching above the head or shoulders, bending, squatting, and kneeling
• Teachers may be assigned to teach at various locations to meet student needs

Responsibilities:

• Teach content and appropriate learning activities aligned with the Gentry Public Schools’ curriculum and standards.
• Implement a variety of effective instructional strategies consistent with lesson objectives and grade-level expectations.
• Instruct students in citizenship, basic communication skills, and other general elements as outlined in state law, district regulations, and the School District’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
• Provide planned learning experiences to engage and motivate students while maximizing instructional time.
• Assess student performance and develop lesson plans, adjusting instruction as necessary to meet individualized and group learning needs.
• Monitor student progress and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.
• Maintain an atmosphere of respect and rapport, ensuring positive interactions between students and staff.
• Establish and uphold standards of behavior to create a conducive learning environment.
• Evaluate academic and social growth, maintain accurate records, prepare progress reports, and communicate with parents on student progress.
• Provide timely and constructive feedback to students.
• Collaborate with other staff members to identify student needs and address health, attitude, or learning challenges.
• Create a safe, organized, and high-expectation classroom environment that fosters student engagement.
• Attend staff meetings and perform duties as assigned by administrators, including before and after school responsibilities.
• Take reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, and facilities.
• Maintain accurate records as required by law and district policies.
• Participate in professional development activities provided by the District and self-selected growth opportunities.
• Administer standardized assessments as mandated.
• Participate in curriculum development at both the school and district levels.
• Supervise students during extracurricular events, field trips, recess, bus duty, and other out-of-classroom activities.
• Maintain professional relationships and emotional control under stress.
• Abide by all state statutes, school board policies, and district regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Coaching Duties:

• Lead and coach the boys' basketball team, fostering a positive team environment and emphasizing sportsmanship, discipline, and skill development.
• Plan, organize, and execute all aspects of the basketball program 7th-12th grades, including practices, game strategy, player development, coach development, and team management.
• Mentor and train assistant coaches.
• Maintain positive relationships with athletes, parents, school staff, and the community.
• Provide leadership in coordinating the basketball program, ensuring equitable representation and participation.

Work Environment:

• The position is based in Gentry Public Schools and involves regular visits to athletic facilities, classrooms, and school campuses. It will require attendance at practices, games, and extracurricular events.
