Position Overview:
The job of Paraprofessional, Special Education was established for the purpose/s of assisting assigned teaching personnel in the supervision and instruction of special education students; performing classroom clerical tasks; assisting students by meeting special health care needs and developing students' daily living and behavioral skills. Adapts classroom work under the direction of the teacher for the purpose of providing a method to support and/or reinforce lesson plans.
Responsibilities:
- Aids medically fragile children under supervision, including tasks such as tube feeding, toileting, and diapering, to ensure necessary care for assigned students.
- Collaborates with teachers to support student evaluations and implement individualized objectives.
- Assists in executing plans, under teacher direction, to develop students’ social and daily living skills.
- Implements instructional programs under teacher supervision, following lesson plans to enhance students’ academic success.
- Supervises students in various settings, including the classroom, library, and playground, to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
- Performs clerical and record-keeping duties, such as scheduling and copying, to support teachers and administrators.
- Assists with data collection to document student progress and provide reliable information.
- Maintains consistent attendance and punctuality to support the achievement of work unit goals.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the work unit.
Qualifications:
- Education: High School Diploma/GED
- Experience: Paraprofessional experience preferred.

Physical and Mental Demands:
- Ability to lift at least 30 pounds.
- Ability to provide physical assistance to students in emergency situations, including evacuations or lockdowns.
- Must have the stamina and agility required to care for active students in a school setting.
Work Environment:
- Works in standard office and school building environments.
- Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
- May be required to provide student behavior support using appropriate restraint or seclusion techniques for student safety purposes.
