PRINCIPAL TECHNICIAN MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS

START DATE AND DURATION: MARCH / APRIL / MAY: APPLICANT WOULD HAVE TO COMPLETE A COUNTY BACKGROUND CHECK

WORK SET UP: MONDAY TO FRIDAY

8 HOURS -DAYSHIFT (ADJUSTABLE; 6A-2P, 7A-3P, 8A-4P, 9A-5P)

WORK LOCATION: ON SITE –NO HYBRID; 135 MORRIS TPK NEWTON NJ 07860

RATE: $30-$35 PR

DEFINITION:

Under the direction of a supervisory official in a state or local department, institution, or agency, supervises staff involved in the planning, development, and implementation of information systems; reviews related programs and systems; acts as a liaison with internal components utilizing the systems and/or with other government jurisdictions. In a client/server environment, provides hardware/software support to end users; installs hardware and software on servers or workstations; performs other related duties.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

  • Designs and develops management information systems to provide a ready source of retrieval for up-to-date information on which management and operations-related decisions may be based. Develops applicable procedures as required.
  • Conducts studies of programs and operations to determine their applicability to existing or planned information systems. Prepares and submits reports of findings and recommendations.
  • Plans and implements information systems to ensure that administrative needs are met. Evaluates information systems to determine levels and quality of outputs.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains control devices to ensure that system outputs meet established standards of adequacy, efficiency, and effectiveness.
  • Trains and supervises staff, as required, to establish and maintain optimum levels of accuracy and quality of information within affected systems. Prepares manuals and other training materials as needed.
  • Reviews regulations and policies for various programs and related systems and consults with data processing, systems, and program development specialists to ensure that the application of active or planned information systems aligns with pertinent directives.
  • Plans, organizes, and assigns the work of the organizational unit and evaluates employee performance and conduct, enabling the effective recommendation of hiring, firing, promoting, and disciplining of subordinates.
  • Analyzes and/or supervises the coding of data contained in primary or other source documents to facilitate the recording and storage of system inputs.
  • Answers inquiries from system users, explains system functions, and provides technical assistance in the use and application of system features.
  • Provides support in the maintenance of mainframe connections.
  • Installs, configures, and sets up printers and workstations; installs software programs.
  • Responds to requests for assistance; identifies and corrects hardware, software, and printer problems.
  • Troubleshoots application errors.
  • Identifies and resolves network problems.
  • Monitors and reviews data inputs to detect errors within the system, analyzes resultant problems, and develops corrected data/information for entry into the system.
  • Develops, installs, and revises procedures, systems, and methods, and seeks to improve established operating methods.
  • Acts as liaison with federal, state, and local agencies.
  • Ensures that post-conversion systems operations remain fluid by providing budget, staffing, and technical recommendations.
  • Prepares correspondence.
  • Supervises the maintenance of records, files, and data banks.
  • Will be required to learn and utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and computerized information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.

  • Managing a VMware environment with ESXi blades
  • Broadcom licensing
  • Migration of old Windows servers to recent versions
  • Pure storage management
  • Veeam Backup and recovery for servers and email
  • AVL management
  • Spillman management (adding/deleting users, special requests, certificates, general application management)
  • HipLink paging management
  • Active Directory tasks (adding, deleting, resetting passwords for PC IDs and emails)
  • Email management (Outlook 365, Proofpoint, Entra, Azure, ADConnect interface between AD and Azure)
  • CJIS management, including ORI management
  • Comtech text-to-911 management

Network

  • Cisco management of core switches and firepower firewalls
  • Replacement of 3850 switches to a supported model
  • Replacement of SonicWall at Post 2 and IM-1
  • Barracuda web filtering management
  • Cisco AnyConnect / Duo / VPN management

Desktop and Laptops

  • Upgrading all Windows 10 computers to Windows 11
  • Car laptop and printer management
  • CrowdStrike antivirus management
  • Malwarebytes antivirus, patch updates, ransomware recovery

REQUIREMENTS:

NOTE: Applicants must meet one of the following or a combination of both experience and education. Thirty (30) semester-hour credits are equal to one (1) year of relevant experience.

  • Six (6) years of professional experience utilizing or implementing electronic information systems, analyzing information systems, and/or developing procedures for the use of information systems, or in providing user support and solving user problems in a helpdesk or related environment.
  • OR Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of the above-mentioned professional experience.
  • OR Possession of a bachelor's degree in a computer-related area and one (1) year of the above-mentioned professional experience.
  • OR Possession of a master's degree in a computer-related area.
  • OR Possession of twenty-four (24) semester-hour credits in data processing from an accredited college or university and four (4) years of the above-mentioned professional experience.

LICENSE:

Appointee will be required to possess a valid driver's license in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

Job Type: Contract

Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday
