Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Low Voltage Service Technician with at least five years of hands-on experience in the security integration field. This role will primarily involve running service calls for a variety of low-voltage systems, including fire alarms, burglar alarms, security cameras, access control systems, and networking infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of these systems, excellent troubleshooting abilities, and a dedication to providing high-quality service to our clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Service Call Execution:
- Respond promptly to service calls for troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs of security systems, including:
- Fire alarm systems (both conventional and addressable)
- Burglar alarm systems (wired and wireless)
- Video surveillance systems (CCTV, IP-based cameras)
- Access control systems (card readers, biometric systems, etc.)
- Networking infrastructure (routers, switches, cabling, etc.)
- Travel to client locations to diagnose and resolve issues on-site in a professional and efficient manner.
- Identify system malfunctions and apply appropriate solutions, ensuring systems are restored to full functionality as quickly as possible.
- Perform necessary repairs, replacements, and upgrades to hardware or software as required.
- System Troubleshooting and Diagnostics:
- Conduct thorough diagnostics on low-voltage systems to pinpoint issues related to hardware failure, wiring, signal loss, or software glitches.
- Test, calibrate, and reprogram security systems to restore them to proper working order.
- Ensure systems are operating according to manufacturer guidelines and local code requirements after each service call.
- Preventative Maintenance:
- Provide preventive maintenance services on various security systems to ensure long-term reliability and reduce the likelihood of future issues.
- Perform system health checks, cleaning, and testing to ensure the systems are operating at optimal levels.
- Advise clients on proper maintenance practices to extend the lifespan of their systems and prevent potential problems.
- Customer Interaction and Service Delivery:
- Interact directly with customers during service calls, maintaining a professional and courteous demeanor at all times.
- Clearly explain issues to customers, including the work performed, recommendations for further action, and any potential costs involved.
- Ensure customers are satisfied with the service provided and that all concerns are addressed before leaving the job site.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and detailed service reports for each call, documenting the issue, the steps taken to resolve it, any parts used, and the final status of the system.
- Ensure proper documentation of time spent on each job, including travel time and time spent on repairs.
- Submit service reports and any necessary invoices or forms promptly after each service call.
- System Programming and Configuration:
- Reprogram, configure, and update system settings as necessary for fire alarms, security cameras, access control systems, and other security-related devices.
- Install and configure software updates or firmware patches on security systems.
- Collaboration and Continuous Learning:
- Collaborate with other team members and senior technicians on complex service calls or troubleshooting situations.
- Stay current on industry trends, new technologies, and changes in security system standards or local regulations.
- Participate in ongoing training opportunities to further develop technical skills and knowledge.
- Compliance and Safety:
- Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures while working on job sites.
- Ensure that work complies with local, state, and national regulations, including fire codes and electrical codes.
- Follow proper procedures for handling equipment and tools, and take care to avoid damage to property during service calls.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience & Expertise:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience running service calls for security integration systems, including fire alarms, burglar alarms, access control, CCTV, and networking.
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills for low-voltage systems.
- Ability to work independently on service calls, taking ownership of problems from start to finish.
- Expertise in servicing and maintaining various security technologies and systems.
- Technical Proficiency:
- In-depth knowledge of low-voltage electrical systems, including wiring, cabling, and voltage regulation.
- Familiarity with IP-based security systems, including cameras, access control devices, and networking hardware.
- Experience with industry-standard security system platforms and software (e.g., Honeywell, DSC, Axis, Milestone).
- Certifications & Licensing:
- Relevant certifications (e.g., NICET, UL certification) or licenses as required by local regulations.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Physical and Mental Abilities:
- Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 pounds.
- Comfortable with working in confined spaces or elevated areas as required.
- Strong problem-solving skills and critical thinking ability.
- Communication Skills:
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with customers, explaining technical issues, and documenting service details.
- Ability to provide clear and concise explanations to non-technical customers regarding system functionality and repairs.
