GEO Academies At Baker, LA is a tuition-free, public charter school that serves students in grades K-8. Our dedicated faculty and staff are committed to providing an outstanding education for the students each day as they transition from elementary to middle school to high school and COLLEGE. We are committed to providing our students with instruction that is standards-based and challenging, that meets the needs of each individual student enrolled. We firmly believe that “through our doors walk college graduates”. Through our partnership with local community colleges our students will be able to take dual credit courses with the opportunity to earn college credit at no cost to the student. Students who attend GEO Academy of EBR will graduate with a minimum of a Core-40 High School diploma and up to 60 college credits and their Associate’s degree.
REPORTS TO/TERM:
Principal and Administrative Team
This is a 10-month, full-time position
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assesses students existing comprehension of and fluency with written and spoken English language.
- Designs dynamic lessons to assist students in learning and gaining confidence with English vocabulary, syntax, and pronunciation.
- Provides instruction in small groups when necessary and practical.
- Regularly evaluates student progress.
- Develops and maintains records regarding assessments and lessons and demonstrates each ESL students growth.
- As appropriate, communicates with parents, school counselors, and other educators regarding each students status on a regular basis.
- As appropriate, coordinates and collaborates with other educators involved in the students education so that lessons in the ESL classroom complement the vocabulary, themes, and lessons in other course work.
- Documents lesson plans and completes all required paperwork.
- Maintains and develops teaching strategies and professional competence through active participation in in-service trainings and seminars.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Bachelor’s degree or higher with at least 24 credit hours in the content area required.
- Valid Louisiana Teaching License or 3 years or more of teaching experience in ESL preferred
- Strong technical skills, particularly in integrating technology in the classroom to drive academic achievement
- Demonstrated volunteer or community service
- Experience with Blended Learning
- At least two years of successful teaching in an urban environment
