Responsibilities
Summary
Provides various barbering services for clients including hair cuts and shaves.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Wets hair to prepare for cutting.
- Shampoos hair.
- Shapes, trims and tapers or blocks hair.
- Shaves, trims, and styles facial hair to meet client's desired look.
- Massages neck and scalp.
- Orders supplies.
- Ensures tools and area are clean and sterilized as appropriate.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent certification required.
- Must have a valid State Barbering License.
- College coursework and advanced training in behavioral sciences, correctional services or related field preferred. Training in cultural diversity or sensitivity preferred.
- Possession of applicable state requisites for employment.
- Ability to work overtime as required.
- Ability to handle physical and mental stress associated with working extended hours.
- Must be able to regularly report to work without being late.
- Ability to be physically alert on any shift that is assigned.
- Ability to work up to sixteen (16) hours within a rolling 24 hour period.
- Work experience in a correctional setting preferred.
- Must be flexible, able to command the respect and confidence of inmates or detainees and staff and possess a high tolerance to mental stress.
- Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
Must have resided within the United States or its territories for the last five (5) years.
Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age or older.
