Field Engineering Technician III

Geodesicx, Inc. is searching for a Field Engineering Technician III to join our team in the Chesapeake, VA area. The Field Engineering Technician III will install, maintain and repair electronic equipment, including sensors and navigation systems onboard ships and shore facilities.

Specific Duties:

• Alone or leading a team effort, perform or support installation, testing, verification, repair, diagnostic analysis, and calibration of various systems.
• Assemble, install or construct equipment or parts.
• Service or repair instruments or equipment.
• Conduct a variety of tests using established methods, prepare test specimens, adjust and operate equipment and record test data, pointing out deviations resulting from equipment malfunction and observational errors.
• Possess working knowledge of DOD military, U.S. Coast Guard and commercial industry specifications and standards.
• Read and write system drawings, blueprints, bills of material and technical manuals.
• Provide on-site troubleshooting, as well as assist customers in troubleshooting via phone calls or e-mails.
• Conduct training in all aspects of equipment / system installation, operation, and maintenance to customers and junior technicians.
• Coordinate with various vendors to arrange for parts, supplies and services, prepare purchase requisitions for signature.
• Assist in planning system installations, including all materials, parts, and equipment necessary for installation, including logistical aspects of installations.
• Possess written and verbal communications skills required to write trip reports, training plans, training course material, prepare draft documents such as installation plans, input to technical manuals, and service bulletins.
• Conduct and/or participate in site surveys for future installation.
• Assist in preparing planning and estimation documents for new work.
• Serve as Lead Technician on minor installations.

Experience:

• Able to lift and carry a minimum of 40 pounds.
• Able to use general hand and power tools (screwdrivers, wrenches, pliers, solder irons, power drills)
• Able to use specialized tools (Coaxial and special duty crimpers, banding tools).
• Working knowledge of general purpose electronic test equipment (Volt-Ohm-Meters, Oscilloscopes, Signal Generators).
• Working knowledge of special purpose test equipment (Time Domain Refectometer, Communications Analyzer).
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project, Vizio) · Working knowledge of LAN networks and routers.

Education:

• Associates degree in Engineering or Relevant Military or Technical Certification from an accredited training institution.
• A minimum of eight (8) years experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of telecommunications and electronic systems experience, including 4 years of specialized experience in either shipboard or shore work.
