GEON Performance Solutions has an excellent opportunity for a Maintenance Technician for the Avon Lake, Ohio facility.
Note: Afternoon Shift - 8-hours, 3 p.m. to 11 p.m., Monday - Friday. Flexibility to work overtime and weekends is required. Training will be provided on day shift.
Job Summary
The Maintenance Technician is part of the team responsible for maintaining the assets of the manufacturing plant. This position will be responsible for a wide variety of general industrial plant preventative, corrective and emergency maintenance.
Essential Functions
- Completes projects with minimal guidance showing a proactive attitude to minimizing equipment down time and lost production capability.
- Troubleshoots mechanical devices in operation. Dismantles and examines devices to gain access to and remove defective parts. Adjusts, repairs or replaces defective parts.
- Sets up and operates shop machinery such as lathe, drill press, grinders, band saws, cutting torch, welder. etc. Uses hand tools and pneumatic tools to modify or repair parts and equipment. * Installs new or repairs/modifies hydraulic and pneumatic equipment as needed.
- Improves reliability and uptime of all equipment. Takes a proactive approach to equipment issues with a preventive maintenance mentality.
- Operates forklift and hydraulic working platform as needed.
- Research supplies, parts and tools needed to complete work orders.
- Assists in identifying and maintaining an accurate inventory of parts.
- Contributes to upkeep and updating of required paperwork such as records, maintenance logs, documents, manuals, drawings, PM logs, etc.
- Supports the vision, mission and guiding principles of the company.
- Follows applicable Safety, Health and Environmental rules and guidelines while performing job duties.
- Maintains departmental housekeeping.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent. Completion of an apprentice program, associate’s degree in industrial manufacturing with 2 - 5 years of industrial maintenance experience at a minimum.
- Proven experience in troubleshooting motor controls, removing, replacing and aligning motors, gearboxes, bearings etc.
- Knowledge and experience on scales and load cells.
- Knowledge and experience on chain hoist.
- Knowledge and experience working with bearings, aligning gearboxes, screw feeders, pumps, motors, and couplings.
- Knowledge and experience setting up and operating shop machinery such as lathe, drill press, grinders, band saws, cutting torch, welder. etc.
- Has used hand tools and pneumatic tools to modify or repair parts and equipment.
- Ability to identify different kinds of oil, check oil, and grease bearings.
- Boiler experience is preferred.
- Compressor and dryer experience is preferred.
- Experience in other fields of maintenance such as plumbing, refrigeration, carpentry, welding, forklift repair, etc. Competent PC (MS Office and Windows) computer skills desired.

- Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize and adjust to rapid changes.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.
- Ability to be on call and work overtime as needed.
Physical Demands:
Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively. The ability to climb, kneel, crawl through openings, and work in tight spaces and at heights, reach, grab and lift, pull, push is necessary.
- Requires the use of safety equipment as dictated by the work area such as safety glasses and shoes, dust mask, hard hat, respirator, face shield, hearing protection, chemical suit, gloves, aprons, etc.
- Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is frequently exposed to vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock.
