GeoPacific is seeking a full-time, experienced geotechnical field technician for our projects located in Oregon and SW Washington.
GeoPacific is a locally owned geotechnical engineering firm that specializes in geotechnical engineering services, applied earth sciences, geoenvironmental services, and geotechnical quality control services. GeoPacific provides geotechnical consulting services to industrial, commercial, residential, and municipal clients throughout Oregon and Washington. Our office is located in Tigard, Oregon, with easy access to projects in the Portland Metro Area, including Clark County, Washington, and the Willamette Valley.
The field technician will be responsible for coordinating site visits with contractors, conducting soils and materials testing, sampling, and daily report writing. The field technician will observe placement of engineered fill, perform appropriate control tests, review data for compliance with project specifications, review and observe soil conditions for building foundations, classify soil types, perform moisture-density testing or soils and aggregates, sample soil and aggregate, test compaction of hot-mix asphalt, test fresh concrete, and occasionally perform soils laboratory analyses.
The ideal candidate will possess a working knowledge of basic geotechnical principles, have a strong work ethic, strong technical writing skills, 1 to 2 years of experience conducting geotechnical construction monitoring including nuclear density testing, soil sampling, soils laboratory testing, plan reading, and daily report preparation. Field technicians must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
Primary responsibilities will include:
· Construction monitoring for earthwork projects
· Nuclear density testing of soil and asphalt
· Sampling and testing of fresh concrete
· Daily report preparation
· Soils laboratory testing
The ideal candidate will possess:
· High school diploma (Bachelor's degree of science preferred)
· Background in engineering or geology
· Nuclear density gauge certifications and experience
· ACI concrete field testing technician – Grade 1 certification
· Driver's license and safe driving record
· Comfortable working independently and outdoors in all weather
conditions
· One to two years of experience in the geotechnical engineering field
· Strong self-motivation
· Strong organizational skills
· Excellent writing abilities
