GFY is seeking a SUE Technician to join our Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) team. This is an entry-level position where you will be responsible for assisting the Lead Locator (crew chief) in all aspects of electronically and physically locating underground utilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Uses ground-penetrating radar (GPR), handheld electromagnetic (EM) locators and other specialized devices including vacuum-excavation equipment to locate underground utilities (communications, electric, water, sewer, gas, etc.)
- Drives, operates, and maintains vacuum-excavation vehicles
- Regularly uses a variety of hand and power tools including but not limited to wrenches, drivers, drills, pneumatic hammers, etc.
- Assists with Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) daily setups
- Stocks vacuum excavation trucks and support vehicles with appropriate equipment, supplies, tools, paint, flags, signs, asphalt, concrete, etc. daily
- Participates in maintaining a safe work environment for all utility crew members
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license with a clean Motor Vehicle Report
- Company training will be provided
- Good verbal and written communications skills and ability to think critically
- Ability to travel out of town as needed
- Ability to work outdoors, sometimes in adverse weather conditions, and overnight as needed
- Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis
