George Fox University's Athletic Department is seeking a determined multi-tasker to join our team as the Assistant Football Coach.

About the Job :

The Assistant Football Coach will assist the head coach in leading, developing, and mentoring the collegiate football team, striving for competitive excellence in intercollegiate athletics. This role also assists the head coach in fostering a comprehensive program that promotes athletic success, personal and spiritual growth, and academic achievement for all team members.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to :

  • Providing coaching and leadership to a position group through effective meetings, film analysis, playbook review, training sessions, practices, games, academic support, and team-building activities.
  • Integrating faith-based principles into coaching and mentoring student-athletes in their personal, academic, and spiritual growth in alignment with George Fox University's Christian mission.
  • Assisting in recruiting and retaining student-athletes who align with the university's values and athletic standards while contributing to overall program development and operational support.
  • Assisting with eligibility requirements for our student-athletes.
  • Aiding in some aspects of overall program management, budget, and fund-raising.
  • Assisting the athletic department with game management in the winter and spring seasons.
  • Attending clinics and seminars appropriate to professional growth in individual sports coaching areas.
  • Articulating the mission of the George Fox University athletic program in ways that align with the "Be Known" vision of the University.
  • Modeling a highly relational Christian witness to the university's students and employees. By actions, words, and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role.
  • Communicating effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students, and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect and customer service.

  • Demonstrated experience working cross culturally with respect, appreciation and humility.
  • Other duties as assigned.

A day in the life of this position :

This position is a highly diverse role which varies day-to-day, in-season, and out-of-season. The Assistant Football Coach must model a life of learning, integrity and service around the person and work of Jesus Christ. Student-athletes are our primary focus; therefore, this position requires an immense amount of availability to help coach, educate and mentor. The Assistant Football Coach must be able and willing to assist the head coach with day-to-day tasks while being available to connect with student athletes.

We're looking for candidates who have :

  • A Bachelor's Degree.
  • The ability to communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing, including on telephone, and to understand and follow instructions.
  • Two years of high school, college, club or professional coaching and / or playing experience at the college level.
  • A clean driving record along with the ability to provide proof of a valid driver's license and pass the University Driver Certification.
  • The ability to work weekends, evenings, and travel.
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks and actively participate in practices.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States. This position does not offer visa sponsorship; therefore, only applicants who do not require sponsorship for employment visas, now or at any point in the future, should apply.

  • Preference Will be Given to Those Who Have the Following Attributes :

  • Collegiate Football Playing Experience.
  • Successful collegiate coaching and recruiting experience.
  • Knowledge of NCAA Rules.
  • CPR / AED / First Aid Certifications.
  • Knowledge of computer applications, organizational abilities, event planning and camps, fund raising, financial management and recruiting ability and demonstrated commitment or experience working with diverse populations.
  • Job information :

  • Hours Per Week : 40 hours (1.0 FTE)
  • This position requires irregular office hours including after-hours and weekend work to attend competitions, practices, etc.

  • Primary Work Location : Newberg Campus
  • Local and national travel is required.

  • Working Conditions : Physical requirements could include lifting more than 25 pounds and performing any activities such as balancing, bending / stooping, climbing stairs, crawling, crouching, climbing ladders, kneeling, repetitive motion or reaching above shoulder level.
