George Fox University's Athletic Department seeks a highly motivated and organized leader to join our team as the Interim Director of Esports/Associate Athletic Director of Player Development.


About the Job:

The Director of Esports/Associate Athletic Director of Player Development will lead, develop, and mentor the collegiate esports team, striving for competitive excellence in intercollegiate athletics. This role also involves fostering a comprehensive program that promotes athletic success, personal and spiritual growth, and academic achievement for all team members.


Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Spiritual and Character Development
    • Discipling Esports student-athletes, fostering spiritual growth, and model Christ-centered competition through mentorship, service opportunities, and collaboration with university administration.
  • Recruitment and Retention:
    • Identifying, recruiting, and retaining student-athletes who align with George Fox University's values, balancing academic success, competitive excellence, and character development.
  • Competitive Excellence:
    • Planning and conducting training sessions, developing strategies for regional and national success, and cultivating a positive, growth-oriented team culture.
  • Program Operations:
    • Managing competition schedules, overseeing travel logistics, ensuring compliance with eligibility standards, and handling administrative tasks, including budget management and fundraising.
  • Leadership and Community Engagement:
    • Hiring and supervising staff, operating Esports camps or workshops, and engaging with the community to promote the program and build relationships.
  • Working collaboratively with other members of the athletic department and university administration.
  • Communicating effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students, and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect and customer service.
  • By actions, words, and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role.
  • Demonstrated experience working cross culturally with respect, appreciation and humility.
  • Other duties as assigned.

A day in the life of this position:

The Director of Esports/Associate Athletic Director of Player Development position is a highly diverse role that varies day-to-day, in-season, and out-of-season. This individual must model a life of learning, integrity, and service around the person and work of Jesus Christ. Student-athletes are our primary focus; therefore, this position requires an immense amount of availability to help coach, educate, and mentor. Our Director of Esports/Associate Athletic Director of Player Development must excel in organizational and analytical skills to assist with program administrative functions and recruiting. This is a highly visible position within the community.


We're looking for candidates who have:

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum four years coaching experience at the collegiate level or demonstrated successful head coaching experience on the high school level.
  • The ability to communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing, including on telephone, and to understand and follow instructions.
  • Recruiting experience.
  • A clean driving record along with the ability to provide proof of a valid driver's license and pass the University Driver Certification.
  • The ability to work weekends, evenings and travel.
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks and actively participate in practices.
  • Knowledge of NCAA Rules.
  • Knowledge of computer applications, organizational abilities, event planning and camps, fund raising, financial management and recruiting ability and demonstrated commitment or experience working with diverse populations.

  • Coaching and recruiting experience at the collegiate level.

Job information:

  • Hours Per Week: 40 hours (1.0 FTE)
    • This position requires irregular office hours including after-hours and weekend work to attend competitions, practices, etc.
  • Duration: This is a limited term position
  • Primary Work Location: Newberg Campus
    • Local and national travel is required.
  • Working Conditions: Physical requirements could include lifting more than 25 pounds and performing any activities such as balancing, bending/stooping, climbing stairs, crawling, crouching, climbing ladders, kneeling, repetitive motion or reaching above shoulder level.
  • Supervisor: Director of Athletics
