George Fox University's College of Nursing announces a part time position for a Simulation Operations Technician (Sim Ops Tech). The College of Nursing is seeking an individual in this role who will support the logistical operations of the simulation lab. The ideal candidate will have experience working in healthcare, strong audiovisual/computer skills, and organizational skills.


About the Job:

The Simulation Operations Technician supports the logistical operations of the simulation and lab in the College of Nursing. This support position collaborates with the Simulation Manager and Simulation Coordinator to support on campus clinical activities.


Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Audiovisual Technology
    • Demonstrating a working knowledge of a range of common AV hardware and software.
    • Providing general technical support and troubleshooting for the AV system.
    • Setting up, operating, and storing AV equipment.
    • Demonstrating safe and effective operation of the AV system.
  • Education
    • Demonstrating a general knowledge of adult education theory.
    • Preparing, operating, and storing practical teaching apparatus and equipment.
    • Supporting the simulation center users in the use of instructional media and equipment.
    • Providing pre-briefing and/or orientation to the learning environment for learners, faculty, and other staff.
  • Healthcare
    • Demonstrating knowledge of relevant health professions principles and practices.
    • Communicating using medical terminology.
    • Demonstrating the safe operation of common medical equipment and associated resources.
    • Understanding and applying universal precautions when working with biological materials.
  • Information Technology
    • Setting up, operating, and storing IT equipment within the lab.
    • Demonstrating the correct usage of and providing general support and troubleshooting for all IT equipment within the lab.
    • Installing updates and performing scheduled maintenance on all IT assets within the lab.
    • Undertaking the inspections of IT equipment to monitor conditions and report failures.
  • Operations
    • Undertaking stock control, ensuring adequate security and levels of consumables and equipment are maintained.
    • Ensuring preparation and storage areas are maintained in a clean, safe, and orderly manner and comply with health and safety regulations.
    • Maintaining documents and records in support of simulation center operations.
  • Research & Evaluation
    • Assisting in the maintenance of routine records, updating databases, and analyzing routine data/information as required.
    • Assisting staff and students in the preparation of technical data/materials for future reference such as publication or teaching purposes.
    • Supporting simulation-based patient safety and quality improvement projects.
  • Simulation
    • Setting up, operating, storing, and maintaining simulators, task trainers, and other simulation equipment.
    • Providing general support and troubleshooting for simulation technologies.
    • Contributing to and maintaining simulation technology-related documentation.
  • Theatrics & Staging
    • Applying, and removing moulage/special effects appropriate to the scenario to increase realism.
    • Preparing the simulation environment to accurately represent a clinical setting using real and simulated clinical supplies and equipment.
    • Portraying the role of a patient, family member, or other scenario participant as directed.
  • Communicating effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students, and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect and customer service.
  • By actions, words, and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role.
  • Demonstrating awareness, respect, and appreciation for diversity of culture, background, race, sex, political views, expressions of faith, etc. and works well with a variety of people.
  • Other duties as assigned.

A day in the life of this position:

The Sim Ops tech works with faculty and staff for on campus clinical and lab experiences. Setting up equipment, operating simulation manikins, monitors, and other equipment, tearing down, maintaining equipment, and providing technical support based on the day's schedule of scenarios and student outcomes to be met.


We're looking for candidates who have:

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in healthcare roles such as Paramedic, EMT, LPN, RN, or other related positions.
  • Critical thinking skills to solve predictable and sometimes unpredictable problems.
  • The ability to operate and troubleshoot audio-visual equipment including projectors, microphones, portable screens, media players, etc.
  • The ability to operate and troubleshoot simulation equipment including monitors, LLEAP software, and manikins.
  • Physical ability to lift, move, maintain, and set up computer, audio-visual and simulation lab equipment weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States. This position does not offer visa sponsorship; therefore, only applicants who do not require sponsorship for employment visas, now or at any point in the future, should apply.
  • A personal commitment to Jesus Christ and express their Christian testimony in a church. In addition, employees agree to live in agreement with the Community Lifestyle Statement and affirm the theological commitments expressed in the Statement of Faith.

Preference will be given to those who have the following attributes:

  • An Associate Degree or higher.
  • Experience supporting healthcare simulation and laboratory education.
  • Familiarity with physiological monitoring systems.
  • Experience with simulation and laboratory technology.
  • A healthcare background.

Job information:

  • Hours Per Week: Up to 18 hours
  • Work Period: August 1st through May 31st (10 months)
  • Primary Work Location: Newberg Campus
  • Working Conditions: Physical requirements are similar to those of teaching and clinical environments.
  • Supervisor: Director of Clinical Experience for the College of Nursing
