What are the responsibilities and job description for the Material Handler position at George Industries?
POSITION SUMMARY
The Material Handler will need to use a fork truck to move materials around the facility. The Material Handler inspects incoming shipments, calculates how much material is need for a job, and uses saws and shear equipment to cut material to the proper size as dictated by the blue print.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), following machine safety guidelines, and reporting any safety hazards or incidents.Safe use of fork truck and any equipment used. Handling of material for safety and quality
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance tasks on saws and fork truck, such as cleaning and inspecting equipment for signs of wear or damage to ensure optimal performance and longevity. Order equipment maintenance as needed.
- Equipment Setup: Prepare and set up saws and equipment according to job specifications, including selecting appropriate tooling.
- Materials Operations: Use fork truck to dump chip hoppers, unload freight, and move materials around the facility. Arrange pickup or drop off of dumpsters. Order materials needed for jobs, placed thru purchasing. Cut materials for jobs following the blue print and customer specification. Interact with Engineering and Purchasing to resolve material issues in a timely manner. Manage multiple competing priorities simultaneously
· Production Documentation: Maintain accurate production records, including job logs, inspection reports, and process documentation, to track production quantities, quality metrics and any deviations from the standard procedures. Log on and off jobs using INFOR.
· Quality Inspection: Visual and mechanical inspection of incoming materials, including quantity and type from delivery truck. Read and follow instructions on routings. Ensure materials are the proper type and size.
· Make every effort to focus on doing-it-right to make sure the customer is happy or satisfied with our product.
· Provide value to our customers by using Lean tools and concepts to identify and eliminate waste in all forms (scrap/rework, transportation, motion, waiting, inventory, over production, over processing, and under-utilization of people). Uses systemic thinking by seeing processes from end to end and works to challenge the status quo to eliminate the root cause of problems. Is involved in individual and/or team activities that involve using Lean tools and concepts to improve the flow of information and material.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
· Must be able to lift up to 70 pounds periodically
· Must be able to sit, stand or walk for up to 8 hours per day
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
· Education: A high school diploma or equivalent experience. Basic computer skills preferred.
· Experience: Prefer prior experience in machining, manufacturing or working in a similar environment.
· Attention to detail: Strong attention to detail to ensure precise material cut measurements.
· Technical Drawings: Read and understand specifications from blue print.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
