Safety Specialist
Reports to: Safety Manager
FLSA Status: Exempt
Hours: 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. unless otherwise dictated; 45 - 50 hours per week; in-person
Job Location: 3500 Alum Creek Drive; various job sites
General Overview: The Safety Specialist supports providing a safe workplace for Igel employees and its subcontractors, as well as achieving and maintaining OSHA and DOT compliance, as well as the safety rules and regulations of the clients with whom Igel works. This person should consistently demonstrate Integrity, Gratitude, Excellence and Leadership.
Responsibilities:
- Attends project meetings, as well as owner/client kick-off safety meetings;
- Performs jobsite safety audits at least weekly and completes any necessary remediation within 48 hours of identifying a hazard;
- Manages owner/CM-specific paperwork onsite and ensures compliance with timely submission;
- Represents Igel in the event of an OSHA inspection;
- Attends morning huddles and provides constructive feedback, including incident follow-up for the project;
- Attends onsite safety meetings as required;
- Operates the Igel Incident Line, as required;
- Performs all safety compliance-related training;
- Addresses safety hazards as they occur, working with onsite crews to implement necessary modifications for compliance and safe practices;
- Identifies respirator needs and ensures compliance with medical evaluations and annual fit testing;
- Identifies opportunities to collect industrial hygiene data and coordinates with third-party providers;
- Is familiar with and educates employees on the use of Igel safety forms;
- Manages risk;
- Investigates equipment and auto accidents;
- Assists in the enrollment of subcontractors to appropriate wrap-up insurance administrators;
- Provides initial responder care for injured workers and subcontractors onsite;
- Maintains communication with injured workers and the company to support a safe return to work;
- Becomes and remains DOT-certified to collect urine drug test specimens;
- Maintains adequate onsite supplies for field personnel;
- Assists with field management onsite for other duties as needed;
- Knows and adheres to all company policies and procedures;
- Maintains all certifications required for jobsite approval as a site-safety coordinator;
- Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
- High school diploma;
- 3-5 years’ experience in construction;
- Familiarity with OSHA, MSHA, DOT, and MUTCD preferred;
- Highly organized and accurate;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills;
- Proficiency in email and Microsoft suite of products;
- Must have a motor vehicle record that satisfies the company’s insurance requirements;
- Must have reliable transportation;
- Must be able to pass a drug test;
Certifications:
- OSHA 500 and OSHA 510 preferred;
- CHST or CSP preferred.
