Position Summary:

The Director of Maintenance is responsible for ensuring the airworthiness and operational readiness of aircraft operating under 14 CFR Part 135, maintaining the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance. This role oversees all aspects of the maintenance program, including tracking systems, vendor audits, and maintenance coordination, while ensuring adherence to FAA regulations and company policies. The Director will work closely with internal teams, vendors, and regulatory bodies to drive the continuous improvement of maintenance operations and aircraft reliability.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Airworthiness & Compliance: Oversee the airworthiness of the aircraft fleet, ensuring all maintenance is performed in compliance with the General Maintenance Manual (GMM), RVSM Manual, and all manufacturer-recommended inspection programs.
  • Maintenance Oversight: Manage maintenance tracking programs, including CAMP and CMP, and ensure all scheduled maintenance and inspections are performed on time. Conduct audits and reviews of maintenance records to ensure compliance with FAA regulations and company standards.
  • Vendor Management: Perform on-site audits of maintenance providers and maintain an approved vendor list. Ensure vendors and contractors comply with anti-drug/alcohol abuse programs and safety standards.
  • Operational Control: Exercise operational control over maintenance operations, including the initiation, conduct, or termination of flights based on aircraft airworthiness.
  • MEL & Deferral Management: Authorize and manage the Minimum Equipment List (MEL), Configuration Deviation List (CDL), and Non-Essential Furnishings (NEF) items. Monitor deferrals for timely resolution.
  • Audits & Inspections: Conduct conformity inspections to evaluate equipment and manuals for Part 135 compliance. Participate in audits conducted by regulatory authorities, customers, and third-party organizations.
  • Cost Management: Review and approve maintenance invoices, ensuring they align with estimates and that services are performed in a cost-effective manner.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Ensure all necessary documentation is completed prior to aircraft release. Prepare and submit Mechanical Reliability Reports (MRRs), Mechanical Interruption Summary (MIS) reports, and Special Flight Permits.
  • Safety & Quality: Promote and comply with the companys Safety Management System (SMS) and Quality Management System (QMS), ensuring that all safety and quality standards are met.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Provide training and support to maintenance personnel, fostering a culture of safety, compliance, and operational excellence. Lead Continuous Analysis and Surveillance System (CASS) meetings to assess aircraft reliability and implement corrective actions.
  • Regulatory Liaison: Serve as the primary liaison between the company and regulatory bodies, including the FAA, regarding all aircraft maintenance requirements.
  • Other Duties: Perform additional tasks as assigned, supporting the overall objectives of the maintenance department and the company.

Required or Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience:
    • 15-20 years of aviation maintenance experience, with 7-10 years in a management or supervisory role.
    • Prior experience in Part 135 or Part 121 operations with aircraft carrying 10 or more passengers.
  • Certifications: FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) License required.
  • Education: Bachelors degree in Aviation Maintenance, Aviation Management, or a related field, or 7-10 years of equivalent experience.
  • Skills:
    • Extensive knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and aviation safety standards.
    • Strong leadership, team-building, and coaching skills.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Proficiency in maintenance tracking software such as CAMP, CMP, AVTRAK, and experience with CTA/FOS software preferred.
  • Attributes: Detail-oriented, organized, and able to set and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
