Summary of the position: The Senior Accounting Manager is responsible for the oversight of financial statement preparation which can include planning and forecasting. This position also provides oversight and leadership to Accounts Payable Accountants and the Accounts Receivable Manager/AR Billing Specialist. This position is primarily responsible for George Junior Republic in Indiana and GJR in PA and must cross train in relation to all company financials. The Senior Accounting Manager will support payroll as needed. This position works closely with the Controller and the CFO.

Financial Supervision and Management | - Supervise the preparation of financial reports in PA & IN.
- Manage the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results.
- Provide administration and management with information vital to the decision-making process.
- Provide leadership to the accounts receivable/payable and payroll functions on an as needed basis.
- Must work with the Controller to Approve all journal entries booked by staff members on a monthly basis.

Analysis | - Compile and analyze financial reporting packages.
- Collect, summarize, and interpret financial data.
- Monitor cash balances and cash forecasts.

Month end closing | - Assists in generating monthly financial statements for GJR and Affiliates, no later than the fourth Friday of each month, unless otherwise specified by the Chief Financial Officer.
- Assist/prepare journal entries and vouchers required to close monthly trial balances for GJR and Affiliates.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly reconciliations of cash, accounts receivable/payable from detail to the general ledger.

Budgeting | - Assist the Controller and Chief Financial Officer with various tasks associated with the budget process, including the preparation of monthly and annual operating budgets.

Communication | - Communicate financial issues/trends to the Controller and the Chief Financial Officer.
- Communicate financial metrics to senior management.

Staff training | - Assist in the training of finance employees, as directed by the Chief Financial Officer.

External Cost Reporting | - Prepare and maintain reports to facilitate the reporting of financial information in cost reports to outside agencies.

Closing Process | - Maintain procedures relative to daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual processes.
- Develop and maintain closing checklists, etc.
- Ensure monthly bank reconciliations are completed in a timely manner.
- Provide support to ensure deadlines are met for all monthly, quarterly, and annual close.

Process Improvement and Compliance | - Evaluate accounting and internal control systems, and recommend improvements.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of accounting software and supporting database, as needed.
- Develop and manage financial controls in accordance with the company’s procedures.
- Comply with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation and maintaining compliance.

Evaluation and Strategy | - Develop and monitor business performance metrics.
- Develop financial strategies by forecasting capital, facilities, and staff requirements; identifying monetary resources; and developing action plans.
- Participate in the development of the organization’s strategic plans.

Other duties as assigned | - As needed assist in the maintenance of the general ledgers and financial statements, as well as budget information. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
- Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Attend meetings as required and assist departmental staff members as needed.

Supervisory responsibilities: This position provides general oversight of both AP and AR. This may include review and quality checks of work performed, providing process improvement suggestions, and training. AP and AR direct supervision and direction is provided by the CFO.

Education | Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related degree and experience. MBA preferred but not required. |

Years of Experience | - Requires a minimum of two years’ experience.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to evaluate financial data, identify trends and make informed decisions.
- Must have organizational skills and experience.
