PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The Service Porter plays a vital role in ensuring smooth operations within the service department by assisting customers and supporting technicians. This position involves maintaining the service area’s organization, handling customer vehicles with care, and providing a welcoming environment to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction.
Growth Path: This entry-level position serves as an excellent foundation for career progression within the automotive service industry. Service Porters have the opportunity to advance to roles such as Service Advisor, Lube Technician, or Dry Technician. With training and hands-on experience, you will be able to deepen your technical knowledge, enhance your customer service skills, and gain a better understanding of vehicle maintenance processes.
Service Advisors, become an expert in guiding customers through their vehicle service needs, providing estimates, and ensuring high levels of satisfaction. Lube Technicians involve routine oil changes, transmission fluid replenishment, brake fluid changes, and windshield wiper fluid replacements. Alternatively, Dry Technicians are responsible for performing routine vehicle maintenance services and inspections, allowing you to develop your technical skills further. These career paths offer long-term growth and advancement within the service department, and the skills learned as a Service Porter will provide a solid foundation for success.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Keep the service lane clean and clear of vehicles and debris
- Maintain service area parking lot
- Park vehicles in assigned area (see diagram)
- Greet customers in the service lane/area if advisors are busy
- Assist the service advisors as needed
- Check that all vehicles are locked at end of business day
- Deliver vehicles to body shops
- Deliver vehicles to other facilities for campaigns to be performed
- Assist courtesy driver by dropping off and picking up guests
- Test drive vehicles when needed
- Assure that seat covers and floor mats are in all vehicles
- Report any damages found on any and all vehicles
- Sweep and mop service lane/parts department lobby
- Wipe down parts and service dept doors, handles, counters, credit card machines and windows at least twice daily and as needed
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Florida driver license
- Ability to read/comprehend instructions and information
- Have strong communication skills
- Be able to follow directions
- Professional appearance
- Use good judgment
- Multitasking

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. S/he is required to sit, climb or balance and taste/smell. S/he must lift within the parameters of the responsibility of the job. S/he must have close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. S/he will be working both indoors and outdoors.
