OBJECTIVE

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Collaborate with students, parents, and other staff members to develop an IEP through the ARD Committee process for each student assigned.

Implement an instructional, therapeutic, or skill development program for assigned students and show written evidence of preparation as required.

Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect an understanding of the learning styles and needs of the students assigned.

Work cooperatively with classroom teachers to modify the regular curriculum as needed and assist special education students in regular classes with assignments.

Participate in ARD Committee meetings regularly.

Conduct an assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan for instructional activities.

Present subject matter according to guidelines established by IEP.

Employ various instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and capabilities of each student assigned.

Plan and supervise assignments for teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).

Use technology in the teaching/learning process. Participate in staff development activities to improve job related skills.

Keep informed of and comply with federal, state, district, and school regulations and policies for special education teachers.

Compile, maintain, and file all required physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents.

Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

 

STUDENT GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT

Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.

Provide or supervise personal care, medical care, and feeding of students as stated in IEP.

Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned.

Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.

 

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT AND ORGANIZATION

Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students' physical, social, and emotional development. Manage student behavior and administer discipline. This includes intervening in crisis situations and physically restraining students as necessary, according to IEP.

Consult with classroom teachers regarding managing student behavior according to IEP.

Consult district and outside resource people regarding students' education, social, medical, and personal needs.

Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.

 

PROFESSIONALISM

To be punctual and be available during official working hours.

To comply with AAMA policies, standards, rules, regulations, and procedures.

To take precautions to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.

To participate responsibly in the school’s improvement initiatives.

To demonstrate timeliness and attendance for assigned responsibilities.

To work collaboratively with other professionals and staff.

To provide and accept evaluative feedback professionally.

Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about school personnel.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.

Required: Valid Texas Teaching Certificate with required special education endorsements for assignments.

Required: Bilingual in English and Spanish

Minimum requirements of four years in an instructional role or equivalent (including Internship).

Salary : $60,000
