Part-Time, Seasonal Groundskeeper (April 1- October 31, 2025)
Position Summary –The work of the Groundskeeper consists of mostly outside tasks to be undertaken in coordination with a small team of other Groundskeepers to ensure our outdoor campus is maintained to a high standard for our students, employees, alumni and guests to enjoy. Work duties will vary season to season, and can also include inclement weather duties. This position reports to the Director of Grounds. This position is considered as Essential Personnel; therefore, work hours may be needed during inclement weather, holidays, weekends, or flexibility with shift needs may occur. There may be certain “blackout” periods where employees may not be able to schedule vacation days.
Groundskeeper Job Responsibilities:
- Follow all safety guidelines for the operation of equipment and while utilizing chemicals
- Daily lawn care and golf course maintenance including but not limited to watering, raking and blowing leaves, mowing and trimming fields, outside trash pick up
- Other lawn maintenance to include shrubbery, flower pots and gardens
- Perform landscaping duties as directed to include planting, tilling and weeding
- Baseball field daily maintenance and repairs
- Clearing of pathways – including debris on walkways and disposing of it in the proper containers
- Required weekend event work dates for certain functions such as Gala, Homecoming, Graduation, Reunion weekend, Open House and other school events to be defined
- Groundskeepers need to have flexibility to help the Maintenance team and work as a team (group) on small projects, as needed.
- Responsible equipment operation, equipment care and maintenance
- Other groundskeeping duties as needed
Groundskeeper Qualifications / Skills:
- Knowledge of landscaping and/or gardening
- Knowledge and ability to operate industrial mowing equipment and other landscaping equipment – care of equipment and make sure this equipment is taken care of as it would be your own
- Experience with golf course maintenance
- Ability to stand, walk, and bend for many hours
- Ability to perform repetitive motion for long periods of time
- Background in handling, mixing, and using cleaning chemicals
- Knowledge of occupational hazards safety rules
- Good communication skills
- Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 pounds), climb ladders and work at particular heights if needed
- Excellent can-do attitude; pleasant and cheery disposition
- Team work and pride of grounds beautification
- Attention to detail with regards to standards for the grounds
- Flexibility for some weekend and holiday work as needed
Education and Experience Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience with school or other relevant gardening/landscaping
Job Types: Part-time, Seasonal
Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
