The mission of the Office of Student Conduct is to promote concepts of fairness, due process, and community values in student conduct settings. All enrolled students are subject to the Code of Student Conduct and are expected to uphold its standards regardless of time or location.

The Assistant Director of Student Conduct will play a vital role in fulfilling the Office’s fundamental mission to assist in students’ educational development by promoting concepts of fairness and due process in judicial settings while striking a balance between community standards and individual behavior. They are a critical team member in addressing matters of student behavior, identifying and ensuring corrective measures. Additional duties include, but are not limited to :

Assist in promoting and educating the campus community about the Code of Student Conduct and the processes and procedures used to address such matters; Such matters may include serious behavior that, if confirmed, could have longstanding impact on a student’s educational path, up to and including separation from the university.

Demonstrate care, excellent judgement, strict adherence to process and procedure, judicious consideration of complex circumstances, and an understanding of rules and regulations governing university policies.

Proceed with thoughtful and clear communication, effective collaboration, and developmental approaches to working with late adolescents and young adults, with creativity and empathy.

Provide leadership for the office during the Director’s absence.

Work Interactions

The Assistant Director will work in close collaboration with campus partners across the university, notably in the following departments : Department of Residential Living; Office of Neighborhood Life; Institutional Diversity, Equity and Affirmative Action; Department of Athletics; Office of University Counsel; GU Police Department (GUPD) and DC Metropolitan Police; Georgetown University-Qatar Campus; Academic Deans’ Offices; Undergraduate and Graduate Student Government Associations and student leaders who serve roles in Student Advocacy Office, Residential Living, and other advisory groups. This position reports to the Director of the Office of Student Conduct and co-supervises student employees and graduate assistants.

Requirements and Qualifications

A Masters degree in higher education or related field; or a J.D. law degree is required for this role

Minimum of 5 years of experience in student conduct in a college or university setting

Demonstrated success as a professional in an administrative student conduct process or closely related area

Must demonstrate familiarity with current Title IX obligations

Possess an understanding of and commitment to student development, character formation, and community building

Ability to handle sensitive cases, emergency situations, and make sound judgments regarding immediate priorities

Strong verbal and written communication skills and strong interpersonal, analytical skills

The ability to interact effectively and collaboratively with a diverse community of students, parents, faculty / staff, partner offices and the neighboring community

Pay Range :

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is :

47,586.00 - $87,558.13

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
