The Georgetown Center on Poverty and Inequality expands economic security and opportunity and advances racial and gender equity for everyone in the U.S. through research, analysis, and ambitious policy ideas. We bridge academia and policy to equip policymakers and advocates with rigorous research, trusted analysis, and innovative policy solutions needed to make change. Our ideas are backed by evidence and data and rooted in the lived experiences of people affected by poverty.

Duties

The Georgetown Center on Poverty and Inequality (GCPI) is seeking a Communications & Development Specialist to support our external affairs work. GCPI is a research center that generates policy solutions to improve the lives of people experiencing poverty in the United States. Collaborating with government and movement leaders, we provide timely, evidenced-based ideas to impact decision-making, increase economic well-being, and advance racial and gender equity. The communications and development specialist will advance GCPI’s mission by building our communications capacity and strengthening our fundraising efforts. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Develop internal and external communications materials, improving the website.
  • Assist with building an engaged audience on our digital media platforms and securing media coverage.
  • Finalize the style and format of publications to match the style guide and meet accessibility requirements.
  • Assist with fundraising activities, including researching prospects, tracking contacts, developing concept notes, proposals, and grant reports, and coordinating across teams.

Work Interactions

This position would report to the Director of Communications, who in turn reports to the Deputy Executive Director. There are no plans for this position to have a supervisory role over any staff. The position is expected to interact with students and other faculty and staff on a nonsupervisory basis.

Requirements And Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, plus 1-3 years of experience with communications, development, advocacy, and/or public relations
  • A commitment to GCPI's mission
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, including the ability to synthesize and clearly express complex ideas in writing and visually, tailored for various audiences
  • Ability and experience to connect policy and research to real-world implications, particularly around poverty, inequality, and racial and gender equity
  • Experience and creativity in leveraging communications to amplify impact
  • Familiarity or experience with digital media, including graphic design
  • Knowledge of issues related to poverty and inequality
  • Race, class, and gender equity and inclusion experience, skills, and values
  • Self-driven work ethic & initiative and strong capacity for collaboration
  • Ability to manage a high volume of work with efficiency
  • Impeccable attention to detail and accuracy
  • Flexibility & enthusiasm for learning

Work Mode Designation

Pay Range

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

$47,586.00 - $87,558.13

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
