Requirements
Georgetown University’s Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, part of Georgetown University Medical Center, seeks to prevent, treat, and cure cancers by linking scientific discovery, expert and compassionate patient care, quality education and partnership with the community — guided by the principle of cura personalis, “care for the whole person.” Georgetown Lombardi is the research engine driving clinical cancer research at MedStar Health in the D.C. Metro area and Hackensack Meridian Health in northern New Jersey.
Duties
The Research Technician 2 provides skilled medical technology and histology capabilities to support the scope of the pathology and histology services, and the research related functions and goals of the Histopathology Laboratory in the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center. Duties include, but are not limited to:
This position supports translational and basic research projects, including but not limited to, Lombardi mission critical goals of biomarker discovery and validation. This work requires cooperative interactions and seamless coordination with members of all 3 departmental sub-divisions within the HTSR. The incumbent reports to HTSR Co-Directors and is not responsible for oversight of staff members in the laboratory.

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.

Duties
The Research Technician 2 provides skilled medical technology and histology capabilities to support the scope of the pathology and histology services, and the research related functions and goals of the Histopathology Laboratory in the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center. - Oversee the daily histology sample preparation, sectioning of tissue samples, staining, and routine maintenance of equipment.
- Provide support of the biomarker discovery and validation projects for translational research studies as well as animal model research studies.
- Perform specific benchwork for basic and clinical research to prepare for biochemical, molecular, and microscopic examinations and assays of biological samples.
- Prepare billing for completed work to ensure proper payment for services provided, performing these functions in accordance with Georgetown University Medical Centers policies, procedures, and standards.

Requirements And Qualifications
- A high school degree and current enrollment in a college or university program while working toward the completion of a bachelor’s degree in a related area of health; Bachelor’s degree preferred in related field
- 1 to 3 years of related experience (research/medical/clinical), microtomy experience
- Excellent organizational and communication skills and ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with investigators
