Position Title: Part Time Aquarist Apprentice
Department: Aquatic Sustainability
Classification: Non-Exempt/ Part Time
Direct Report: Associate Curator, Aquatic Sustainability
Position Summary
The Part Time Aquarist Apprentice will work with a diverse team of other Aquarists in the implementation and evaluation of animal care and quarantine protocols at the off-site Animal Care Facility and will be responsible for implementing daily operational requirements as articulated by the Aquatic Sustainability management team. The Part Time Aquarist Apprentice will work with the team to learn basic aquariology, complete required training, learn and understand safety procedures, as well as meeting personal performance goals and objectives. Once trained, the Part Time Aquarist Apprentice will work primarily to further SEA Sustain Goal S.3.5.3a in support of live animal food aquaculture.
Responsibilities:
- Learns animal care standards and department goals for the Animal Care Facility.
- Learns the daily operational requirements of the staff, animals and areas of responsibility.
- Participates in training, development and performance review process for individual development and enrichment
- Works with the Aquatic Sustainability team to maintain the highest quality animal care.
- Nurtures working relationships with co-workers and team members from other departments.
- Performs other duties as workload necessitates.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma required. In pursuit or possession of a four-year degree in biology or related field preferred.
- Prior animal care experience with knowledge of animals in zoological settings preferred.
- Ability to work with others in a team environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
