Department Information
The primary function of the Building Services Unit is to clean, remove trash, and provide a safe and healthy environment for students, faculty, staff, administration, and the community.
Job Summary
This role serves as the working lead for the Building Services Unit. The position is responsible for providing resources and assigning tasks to a team of Custodian I's who handle general cleaning, and Custodian II's who focus on floor care. The Lead will supervise and train a small team of approximately 3-5 staff members. Additionally, the Lead will step in to cover custodial absences and ensure daily tasks are completed. The Lead is also expected to report any performance or behavioral concerns to the supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and supervision to a small team of 3-5 staff members.
- Train staff on the proper use of equipment, tools, and cleaning procedures.
- Delegate tasks to Custodian I's (general cleaning) and Custodian II's (floor care).
- Step in to fill staff shortages and handle employee call-ins.
- Report performance and behavioral issues to the supervisor
Cleaning - 45
- Perform daily floor care duties such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, buffing, and carpet cleaning.
- Occasionally clean restrooms, classrooms, hallways, stairwells, and floor mats according to a set schedule (daily, weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly).
- Clean windows, walls, trash cans, glass, and doors at a height level of up to 10ft.
- Clean facility wall fixtures including lights, fire alarms, fire extinguishers, drinking fountains, ceiling fans, window ledges, door knobs, and kick plates.
- Move office and dormitory furniture/equipment for cleaning as needed.
- Sweep outside walks, porches, and stairways attached to the facility.

- Handle custodial emergencies during shifts and report to the supervisor.
- Perform any additional duties as needed to meet departmental goals.
- Attend departmental meetings and training sessions.
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent AND two years or more of experience performing floor care (Stripping, applying finish, and carpet extraction).; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Experience
Two years of supervisory experience.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
ABILITIES
Ability to follow both verbal and written instructions accurately. Capable of lifting up to 30 lbs. unassisted. Skilled in using cleaning materials appropriately for various building surfaces while understanding the potential hazards of cleaning products. Able to work extended hours performing manual tasks and maintain proper care of equipment used
KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of proper custodial practices, techniques, and procedures. Familiarity with the use of custodial equipment such as automatic scrubbers, carpet extractors, vacuums, window cleaning tools, high dusters, low-speed buffers, high-speed burnishers, gas blowers, and no-touch restroom machines. Understanding of different types of personal protective equipment and safety data sheets (SDS)
