Job Summary

The Library Associate I is a public service position in a team based collaborative academic environment and is primarily responsible for outreach and programming, customer service, and facilities and security management of the library during evening hours. This position participates in the orientation, training, supervision, scheduling, mentoring, and evaluation of undergraduate student assistants and graduate assistants.

The work hours for the position are Monday-Thursday and Sundays from 4pm-1am during the Fall and Spring semesters. During the summer, work hours will align with the library's operating hours.

The Library Associate 1 position collaborates with appropriate campus entities to develop and assist with workshops and outreach events that increase student engagement with the library; designs and delivers library workshops and events geared towards students for general education and wellbeing, and creates programs and exhibits to support learning and engagement at the library; collaborates with library staff and faculty to develop educational services that integrate the library's technology and services into university programs.


Responsibilities

Outreach & Programming - 30
Create recurring programming and workshops for students and staff. Outreach with various campus organizations, departments, and community groups to provide and promote the library's technology and services.

Customer Service - 20

This position serves as the lead staff person at the main service desk during weekday evenings during the fall and spring semesters and at other times, as needed; participates in the reference question triage by receiving referrals as appropriate and answering questions from patrons in person, via phone, email, text and chat; supports student workers, as needed.


Supervision - 20

Participates in the orientation, training, supervision, scheduling, mentoring, and evaluation of undergraduate student assistants and graduate assistants; receives applications, interviews and participates in the hiring of student staff as needed and budget permits; collaboratively analyzes student staff budget and makes recommendations for yearly budget allocations;

Security - 10
During weekday evenings and at other times as assigned, serves as the main point of contact for the security and monitoring of the library building, its operations and equipment.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Associate's Degree

Required Experience
One year of customer service experience or one year of experience supporting undergraduate students. An ability to work collaboratively as well as independently; excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Additional Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Educational Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree

Preferred Experience
One year of experience providing end-user assistance in using web-based applications and technology; one year of experience supervising, training, and mentoring students.

Two years of experience developing and implementing library programs and outreach initiatives.
