DCH serves as the lead agency for Georgia Medicaid and PeachCare for Kids®, and oversees the Healthcare Facility Regulation Division, State Health Benefit Plan, and State Office of Rural Health, among other divisions, impacting one in four Georgians.

The Georgia Department of Community Health (DCH) is seeking enthusiastic and motivated students and recent graduates who are interested in the internship opportunities at DCH for the 2025 Summer semester. As a participant in the DCH Intern Program, you will have the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience, expand your knowledge, and develop essential skills that will allow you to have a successful start to your career. This DCH Intern Program offers a dynamic environment where you will work alongside seasoned professionals and contribute to meaningful projects that may impact DCH, State Government, and the well-being of Georgia residents.
Interns may provide administrative support, technical assistance to customers & staff, review & process transactions, make program-related determination, verify data and/or monitor compliance of assigned transaction for the assigned Divisions / Offices within DCH to include but not limited to:

Interns may provide administrative support, technical assistance to customers & staff, review & process transactions, make program-related determination, verify data and/or monitor compliance of assigned transaction for the assigned Divisions / Offices within DCH to include but not limited to:
- Medical Assistance Plans (MAP) Division - oversees the Georgia Medicaid and PeachCare for Kids® programs; manages the performance of several CMOs.
- Healthcare Facility Regulations Division (HFRD) - ensures the safety and quality of care in state healthcare facilities.
- Office of Health Planning - administers the Certificate of Need program, conducts reviews of design & construction projects for health care facilities, and develops rules & policies for health care services.
- State Health Benefit Plan (SHBP) - provides affordable, quality health care to Georgia's state employees, teachers, public school employees and retirees.
- Office of Analytics and Program Improvement (OAPI) - source for DCH-related healthcare analytics, program improvement initiatives across the agency.
- Office of Information Technology - provides technology, systems, and data management services to support the DCH enterprise.
- Office of General Counsel - provides legal guidance and direction for the agency.
- Office of Inspector General (OIG) - safeguards the integrity of the agency from risk internally and externally by detecting fraud, waste and abuse.
- Office of Human Resources (OHR) - operates as strategic partners in meeting DCH’s talent management needs.
- Office of Government Relations - works with the General Assembly to analyze bills that affect Medicaid, the State Health Benefit Plan & health care in general; and serves as the customer service agents for the agency.
- The duration of the internship is limited to the period in which the internship provides the intern with beneficial learning. Students will not participate in the internship program for longer than 12 months.
- Spring Internship sessions begin January 16, 2025, and end May 15, 2025
- Summer Internship sessions begin May 16, 2025, and end September 15, 2025
- Fall Internship sessions begin September 16, 2025, and end January 15, 2026
- Student must be a currently enrolled sophomore, junior, senior, graduate student, law student, or no more than 1 year after graduation.
- Must have a strong academic record with a GPA of 2.75 or higher on a 4.0.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Curricular Practical Training (CPT)
- Limited to 20 hours per week
- Optional Practical Training (OPT) (Pre-completion or post-completion)
- Limited to 29 hours per week
- Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Optional Practical Training (OPT)
- Limited to 29 hours per week
- Hands-on experience in a professional work setting.

- Potential for a stipend. Hourly rates are contingent upon budgetary allocations. Typical pay rates are:
- Undergrad students - $15 - $17 per hour.
- Graduate students - $18 - $20 per hour.
- Although there is an opportunity for interns to be selected for full-time employment opportunities, interns are not entitled to a paid job at the conclusion of the internship.
- Deliberate misrepresentation or falsification of any DCH application or background information.
- Deliberate misrepresentation or omission of illegal drug history (use, sale, distribution, or harvesting/ manufacturing) in connection with disclosures.
- Prior convictions for a felony or misdemeanor of an aggravated nature

Salary : $15 - $20
