Behavioral Health Councilor
Walker State Prison
Walker State Prison is looking for a full-time Behavioral Health Councilor. In this position, you will work closely with offenders to develop behavior management and skills acquisition plans, and work with both individuals and groups to help promote optimal mental health. You will also schedule test and administer tests. Many offenders deal with addictions, substance abuse, family, parenting, or marital problems, problems with self-esteem, etc. We need someone willing and able to provide support for these individuals and work towards the goal of rehabilitating and healing our inmate population.
This is a full-time position with benefits, PTO, paid holidays, and 401k and pension plans. This position is listed as a Level 1, but can be hired in as Level 2 depending on applicant’s qualifications and experience, and pay will be adjusted accordingly.

Schedule

Primary Duties
- Assist with administration and scoring of tests
- Develop and implement behavior management plans and required by regulatory agencies
- Evaluate clients’ physical or mental condition based on review of client information
- Maintain confidentiality of records relating to client’s treatment
- Monitor, evaluate, and record client progress according to measurable goals described in treatment and care plan
- Prepare and maintain all required treatment records and reports
- Provide training to direct staff in implementing behavior modification techniques
- Trains to collect information about clients through interviews, observation, and tests
- Act as Client Advocate in order to coordinate required services or to resolve emergency problems in crisis situations
- Counsel clients in individual and group sessions to help them overcome dependencies, recover from illness, and adjust to life
Qualifications
Level 1: Bachelor’s degree in a related field from and accredited college or university
OR
Certification as an addiction counselor from the Georgia Addiction Counselors Association (GACA) or Equivalent certification
Level 2: Master’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university
OR
Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or University AND two years of related experience
