Start your career in public service. The Georgia Department of Human Services (DHS), Division of Family & Children Services (DFCS) is seeking candidates for the position of County Director 5, Child Welfare Services. This position is located in Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia.
Pay Grade: P
Directs and controls the development and administration of policies and programs of social service and community agencies, correctional institutions, rehabilitative services, and related programs that are designed to protect and promote the social welfare of individuals and communities. Provides leadership to subordinate managers and staff.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Direct subordinate managers and staff.
- Analyzes and assesses the effectiveness of existing programs to ensure the identified outcome measures are achieved.
- Assures agency compliance with policies, appropriate documentation, and reporting requirements.
- Builds and encourages a cooperative team-oriented environment within unit(s) and with other agencies and providers.
- Creates and maintains positive working relationships within the community and on the county DFCS Board.
- Develops and administers budgets.
- Facilities communication within the units(s)/ agency on a specific case level as well as on a procedure/ policy level.
- Interviews, hires, directs, trains, evaluates the performance of, and when necessary, disciplines and discharges social services employees.
- Leads and administers a comprehensive system of public assistance, employability, and social services.
- Manages human resources and directs administrative activities for groups of social services employees.
- Plans, administers, and maintains the operation of social services programs.
- Reviews new and current programs to determine their efficiency, effectiveness, and compliance with state, local and federal regulations.
- Bachelor's degree in a related area from an accredited college or university AND five (5) years of experience which includes three (3) years of management of subordinate managers/supervisors in a human service delivery program.
- Bachelor's degree in a related area from an accredited college or university AND three (3) years of experience at the lower level Cnty Dir 4, Child Welfare Svcs (SSM073) or position equivalent.
Related qualifications/experience: Related qualifications include social work and behavioral science degrees, including but not limited to the following: social science, psychology, sociology, child development, family studies, criminal justice, education, public health and public administration. Related experience include the provision of services in a social services environment.
Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, demonstrate some or all of the following skills/experience:
- Three (3) years or more supervisory work experience with DFCS or comparable child welfare agency, managing CPS, Foster Care and/or Adoptions.
Current State employees are subject to State Personnel Board (SPB) Rules regarding salary.
