Therapeutic Support Specialists are licensed professionals with the ability to engage the field in intensive practice guidance and consultation on cases that require a meticulous level of insight to navigate the complexities within our state systems, policies, and regulations. They are responsible for immediate and on-going assessment of medical necessity, treatment, and discharge planning of inpatient admissions to psychiatric residential treatment facilities, crisis stabilization units, and other acute inpatient behavioral or physical health facilities. The field may consult with a specialist for a variety of reasons including but not limited to inquiries into mental health resources, placement stabilization, crisis intervention and treatment, systems navigation, placement prevention, and treatment planning. Specialists make frequent virtual/face to face visits to their assigned counties to attend staffing’s, LIPT meetings, interagency and external partner agency meetings. Additionally, Specialists will offer a variety of trainings, and other educational opportunities on issues affecting youth in care.

PG: KUnder broad supervision, performs psychosocial assessments, treatment planning/monitoring and discharge planning. Provides counseling/therapy to clients requiring complex intervention. Performs commitment determinations and/or executes orders of involuntary commitments. May serve as a team leader.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Serves as the Therapeutic Support Specialist/Care Coordinator to an assigned DFCS Region and/or treatment facility.
- Reviews RBWO program designations and other high-end specialty designations.
- Coordination and consultation during case staffing’s and case planning with high end placements and treatment resources to facilitate care and services.
- Consult with field personnel in alternative placement options and provide recommendations in identifying the least restrictive but most appropriate placement for youth with high-end/complex needs.
- Provides consultation and oversight for youth with high end mental/behavioral health issues, developmental/intellectual disabilities, and complex medical issues
- Reviews and evaluates clinical files to provide consultation and guidance around treatment recommendations.
- Provides and/or coordinates training for direct care services staff and provider network.
- Coordinates with community partners, affiliated public/private agencies, and insurance providers to coordinate treatment and residential needs of youth.
- Provides consultation on emerging/dependent Adults 18-21 with moderate to severe cognitive and developmental disabilities and no imminent transition plan.
- Coordinates and conducts treatment team meetings with county staff to formulate plans for safe transition/discharge planning.
- Participate on an afterhours on-call rotating schedule.
- Master's degree in a related area from an accredited college or university AND licensure in the area of assignment AND Two (2) years of related post-license experience.
- Master's degree in a related area from an accredited college or university AND licensure in the area of assignment AND Two (2) years of experience at the lower-level Social Worker, Licensed 2 (HCP051) or position equivalent.
Preference will be given to candidates who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, demonstrate some or all of the following skills/experience:
- Professional clinical licensure in social work (LCSW, LMSW) or counseling (LPC, LAPC) from the Georgia Composite Board.
- A willingness to work flexible and non-traditional hours.
