- Manages all of the activities of Claims Litigation, including managing staff, managing outside defense counsel, controlling financial results and improving processes.
- Monitors and manages Claims Litigation files and provides direction regarding legal strategy where appropriate.
- Balances workloads of the Claims Litigation team members.
- Assesses coverage issues and approves the bifurcation or trifurcation of Claims Litigation files with coverage issues.
- Serves as overseer of bifurcated and trifurcated Claims Litigation files.
- Ensures that the appropriate Claims and Claims Litigation files are reported to the reinsurance carrier.
- Extends coverage and settlement authority to Litigation Specialists on losses which exceed individual authority.
- Ensures claims legal activity and litigation is handled consistently and in the best interest of the policyholders and the Company.
- Monitors and reports to Sr. Director of Claims/Associate Dir. Of Claims/ Sr. Claims management observed legal trends and any adverse developments.
- Provides monthly written reports to Director of Claims/Associate Director of Claims to include number of incoming lawsuits, pending lawsuits and case outcomes.
- Oversees management of outside attorney relationships.
- Oversees monitoring and controlling legal expenses and payment severity.
- Represents, as needed, the Company in litigation, arbitration, mediation, and other legal proceedings related to claims litigation files.
- Provides input to Sr. Director of Claims/Associate Director of Claims regarding department staffing and budgeting.
- Coordinates efforts with Senior Claims Managers.
- Provides and/or assists with claims training on relevant topics as needed.
- Represents Claims and assists Sr. Director of Claims/Associate Director of Claims with corporate projects as needed.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by Sr. Director of Claims/Associate Director of Claims
- Requires:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Law degree preferred.
- If a practicing lawyer must be admitted to Georgia Bar and able to practice law in Georgia.
- 7 years of insurance claims litigation experience required.
- AIC designation or other insurance designations preferred.
- Continued involvement in professional education is required.
- Must have a valid GA driver’s license.
- Requires excellent telephone, public relations, oral/written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
