Purpose of Job
The purpose of this job is to provide legal support to the Georgia Lottery Corporation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are normal for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Assists in coordinating legal services to the Board of Directors, COAM Advisory Board, executives, managers and employees to ensure that legal questions are resolved in an efficient and accurate manner.
Prepares effective case strategies and appeal strategies regarding investigation of disputes with lottery retailers and COAM licensees.
Initiate all appropriate affidavits, court documents and testimony in support of case strategies for and against the GLC in the time and manner prescribed by applicable laws.
Conducts research necessary to the resolution of specified legal matters, examining statutes, judicial decisions, and other authorities.
Prepares and/or assists in the preparation of opinions for use by the General Counsel and GLC.
Upon assignment, summarizes proposed legislation for distribution to staff.
Conducts analysis and maintains statistical data as to recurrent legal problems and issues within or affecting GLC operations.
Monitors and coordinates litigation assigned to outside counsel.
Provides updates on legal issues to GLC management.
Responds to questions, complaints and requests for information by telephone, in person or by mail from citizens, retailers, employees, department heads, etc.
Prepares, maintains and updates files and logs following prescribed methods.
Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
Juris Doctor from an accredited law school with admission to the Georgia Bar required. New graduates may be considered and hired subject to admission to the Georgia Bar within 6 months of hiring.
