Description

Georgia Military College's Global Online Leadership College is now hiring adjunct professors in the following discipline:  Computer Science

Applicants with the flexibility to teach both day and evening classes are preferred; however, applications will be considered for those with more limited availability. Contracts are for 8 weeks; renewable upon availability of classes and satisfactory job performance.

The Georgia Military College Global Online College is accepting applications for Online Adjunct Instructor to teach a variety of CIS and Computer Science courses. See the list of courses below. At a minimum, candidates must hold a Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, OR Computer Information Systems. See list of required/preferred qualifications below the course list.

 

COURSES WE ARE HIRING FACULTY TO TEACH IN THE GMC GLOBAL ONLINE COLLEGE

 

CIS 120 Introduction to Computer Science

This course is an introduction to computer science that focuses on the foundational role of algorithms in computing. Each of the following layers of the abstract computing stack are explored: algorithmic foundations, hardware, system software, networks, information security, higher-level programming languages (Java/Javascript), types of application software, and social/ethical issues in computing. Students will study basic algorithms using pseudocode and compare them to a corresponding programming language implementation.

 

CIS 210 Principles of Computer Programming I

The study of computer programming with emphasis on problem solving utilizing well-structured code. Additional topics include data types, flow of control structures, single-dimensional arrays, classes, objects, and methods. Course includes programming assignments using the Java programming language.

 

CIS 211 Principles of Computer Programming II

A continuation of the study of computer programming with emphasis on problem solving utilizing well-structured code. Additional topics include multi-dimensional arrays, inheritance, graphical user interfaces, exception handling, sequential file IO, and class library data structures. Course includes programming assignments using the Java programming language.

 

CIS 213 Networking

This course is an introduction to computer networks that provides broad coverage of local area networks, internetworks, and wide area networks. Topics include, network hardware, network topologies, network technologies, network media and access methods, network layers and protocols, TCP/IP, network reference models (OSI), network standards (IEE 802), client and server operating systems, server management and administration, network security, virtualization, and cloud computing. The network security topic overviews security policies, physical security, authentication, authorization, encryption, firewalls, and VPN.

 

CIS 214 Data Structures

This course is an introduction to data structures. Topics include, the design and implementation of data structures as abstract data types, algorithm analysis, indexed (array-based) and linked (node-based) structures, bags, stacks, queues, priority queues, lists, trees, sets, dictionaries, hashing techniques, graphs, and searching and sorting techniques. Assignments using the Python programming language allow students to gain experience using data structures.

 

CIS 220 Data Systems Analysis & Design

This course is an introduction to problems from business and science using logical and mathematical techniques particularly suited to characteristics of the digital computer. Problems involve qualification of descriptive data, manipulation of these data, and expression of analysis in descriptive terms. It includes documentation and flowcharting methods.

 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Adjunct instructors will be required to teach from established curriculum all while adding personal expertise and real world experience to the course. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to teach an online course in the Georgia Military College Global Online College.

  • Utilize the Moodle learning management system to facilitate online learning.
  • Set up a course using defined checklist and how-to documents
  • Develop strategies to teach the approved course content in an online environment
  • Model exceptional verbal and written communication
  • Facilitate topics in a logical progression and pace the delivery to meet the needs of the course requirements
  • Establish positive classroom relationships with students by being actively engaged in the online classroom
  • Facilitate active in-class discussions 5 days of the week with 1 being on the weekend and display enthusiasm for the students, the subject matter, and the learning process
  • Incorporate higher-level learning (i.e. application, analysis, synthesis and evaluation) by giving students opportunities to develop information literacy and problem-solving skills, and by connecting their current study to real-world assignments and previous/future study in the related disciplines
  • Participate in school retention initiatives using Starfish by providing regular, accurate, and timely feedback to students and the school concerning academic grades, behavior, and attendance
  • Facilitate active in-class discussions and display enthusiasm for the students, the subject matter, and the learning process
  • Incorporate higher-level learning (i.e. application, analysis, synthesis and evaluation) by giving students opportunities to develop information literacy and problem-solving skills, and by connecting their current study to real-world assignments and previous/future study in the related disciplines

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • If hired, applicants will be required to complete an online faculty orientation training course which covers online teaching using Moodle and the GMC Global Online College policies and procedures
  • If hired, applicants will be required to complete professional development courses multiple times a year

Qualifications


Applicants must possess one of the following: 

  1. Master’s degree or higher in a qualifying field,

  2. Master’s degree or higher with 18sh (or equivalent) in a qualifying field and/or 5 years of Relevant Work Experience in the Qualifying Field

  3. Bachelor’s degree in a qualifying field and 7 years of relevant work experience in the field.
