Job Overview
Under the supervision of the Manager of Datacenter Infrastructure, the Associate Database Administrator will train to perform all tasks necessary to provide safe and efficient operation of GPA databases – including but not limited to Oracle and SQL. Will learn to monitor and optimize existing databases while performing routine administrative tasks as required. Works closely with the program development staff in defining and creating new databases as well as maintaining the existing environment. Documents findings on statistics for future planning of database requirements. Responsible for backup strategies to ensure safe, reliable, and timely backups of all database systems.
Upholds the values of the GPA to promote Safety, Integrity, Respect, Community, Creativity and Opportunity. Promotes a safe work environment by participating in safety initiatives and reporting unsafe conditions and behaviors.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Knowledge of database administration, backup and recovery procedures, tuning, and SQL preferred.Working knowledge of Unix and/or Windows administration required.Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with GPA staff on all levels as well as the general public required.Must possess technical problem-solving skills and be willing to learn all areas of database administration.

Job Duties
- Maintains and controls proper database integrity, security, and modifications.
- Assures appropriate backup and recovery plans of all database files.
- Maintains and installs database software.
- Create database architecture and storage structures.
- Design structure of databases and advises same to Analysts.
- Proactively performs database monitoring and performance tuning tasks.
- Controls data access and search techniques to the databases.
- Establishes and maintains database standards.
- Maintains documentation on database performance, space usage, and reorganization.
- Controls and schedules all database and other file type reorgs.
- Assists in the restore and recovery of lost data.
- Evaluates and recommends database software and tools for acquisition.
- Informs database users on efficient techniques for accessing data.
- Assist Developers in troubleshooting software applications.
- Performs the duties of a Programmer/Analyst as required.

- TWIC - Transportation Worker Identification Credential Required Upon Hire
