Job Overview
Under the supervision of the Assistant Manager of Claims, the Claims Specialist coordinates all functions of liability and property claims. This will include the documentation and collection of evidence using multiple media sources to create and manage claims for and against the Georgia Ports Authority.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Word required.Experience with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and SAP desired.Good oral and written communication skills required.Ability to deal effectively and professionally with the GPA staff on all levels as well as attorneys, adjusters, customers, and the public required.

Job Duties
- Collaborate with internal departments, external customers, and supply chain partners to document and prepare claims for the Georgia Ports Authority or file claims on its behalf.
- Manage all claims in the designated database, conducting investigations and research to determine cause and liability, while providing supporting documentation.
- Work closely with insurance companies, adjusters, attorneys, GPA staff, and the Department of Administrative Services to resolve claims.
- Exercise independent judgment and discretion in settling claims within authorized limits.
- Oversee the administration, handling, and reimbursement processes for claims.
- Advise management in developing loss control procedures to mitigate risks.
- Gather and verify data related to claims management to ensure accuracy.
- Initiate and manage subrogation efforts as needed.
- Coordinate on-site inspections when required.
- Ensure that claims, payments, and credits are properly closed out in the designated systems.
- Analyze data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement in operations, safety, and efficiency to minimize potential risks.
- Must be a team player with strong communication skills.
- Participate in a 24-hour/on-call rotation with team members to schedule drug and alcohol testing related to incidents involving employees.
- Be prepared to act as a back-up to the Assistant Manager of Claims as needed.

Experience
- 1-3 years Claims management or customer service Required
- 1-3 years Maritime industry experience Preferred
- Preferred Associate's Degree in Risk Management or related field
- TWIC - Transportation Worker Identification Credential Required Upon Hire
- Driver's License - Valid state driver's license Required Upon Hire
