The field survey specialist possesses a high level of land surveying technical skills, expertise, and knowledge. The survey specialist will work to ensure Land Engineering projects are completed accurately and on schedule.
Position will be filled at appropriate level based on knowledge and experience.

- High school degree, required
- A college level bachelor’s degree is preferred in one of the following: engineering, engineering technology, surveying and mapping, geomatics or related degree.
- Land Surveying (five years minimum). This could be any combination of field and office experience (or college related course work).
- Working knowledge and use of Carlson Field Survey or comparable field survey software is required.
- Experience using global positioning systems (GPS) for land surveying is required
- Valid driver’s license
- Comprehensive knowledge of land and construction surveying concepts & techniques
- Ability to read and understand surveying and property documents and drawings
- Understanding of research needs in support of field survey (GPC Land Records research, courthouse research, etc)
- Knowledge of the various survey coordinate datums and projection systems and their differences
- Knowledge of surveying equipment and calibration techniques
- Knowledge of specific software/databases including Carlson data collection software, AutoCAD, PLSCADD
- Understanding of CADD Mapping, Geographical Information Systems (GIS), Global Positioning System (GPS), Precision Measurement, Statistical Analysis and Survey Network Adjustments, Transmission Line Design Elements _._
- Use of basic office software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc)
- Good communication skills, ability to work with a team, multi-tasking ability, ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Coordinate onsite field surveying activities for Land Engineering projects in support of internal customers to produce required maps, terrain models, reports, etc.
- Provide necessary assistance and oversight to crews throughout the project
- Schedule & coordinate any specialized safety training needs for access to restricted areas
- Communicate company safety standards to survey field crews
- Process field data for boundary, topo, volumetric, hydrographic, etc. surveys using company specific software and perform mapping as required to complete projects
- Provide assurance/quality control for all Land Engineering field surveying products.
- Provide technical expertise and input to field and office staff.
- Interface with other Land Engineering personnel and clients to answer questions concerning projects and to communicate project details and requirements.
- Communicate project schedules by providing regular updates to Land Engineering Supervisor, Team Lead, and Land Engineering Coordinator
- Maintain client contact and attend project meetings to understand project requirements and to ensure that project schedules are met
- Update Project Database (LIMS)
- Update procedure documentation for Land Engineering processes, as needed.
- Provide training for Land Engineering production staff to ensure that field data is acquired accurately, efficiently and completely
- Long range planning to prioritize and schedule field survey projects
- Coordinate field crew schedules with Land Engineering Team Lead/Resource Scheduler
- Assist with preparing capital budget estimates for projects requiring Land Engineering activities
- Provide information to update progress schedules
- Skill to function as part of a team and to maintain a positive attitude in challenging situations
- Capacity to establish client relationships and to focus on the needs of the client
- Strong customer service and teamwork attitude
- Responsible decision maker and schedule oriented
- Strong interpersonal and negotiating skills required
- Strong communication skills
- Valid driver’s license is required
- LSIT certification or RLS is a plus

- Approximately 75% to 100% travel requirements
This position has been identified as a role that will require the use of a Georgia Power fleet vehicle. The following will be required if you are selected for this position:
- Must have at least one year of verifiable driving experience (Must hold a valid driver’s license for the class vehicle to be operated. Driving permits are not typically considered a valid driver’s license).
- Must have no revocation of driving privileges within the 36 months prior to application, no convictions of major traffic violations (DUI, hit and run, reckless driving, etc.) within the 12 months prior to application, or any pending charges for a major traffic violation at the time of application.
