This position will be the primary operational liaison between the Campus community and Plant Operations. This position also serves as the primary departmental contact in the Director's absence. The employee in this role will be required to independently assess and respond to daily operational issues as required by the Director or other internal/external agencies. The Assistant Director also p lans and supervises the work of Physical Plant Staff.
Responsibilities

Plans, manages, and oversees the daily functions, operations and activities related to the maintenance and operations of the University's physical resources, including maintenance and operation of buildings, facilities, grounds and equipment. Assist daily with the Director of Physical Plant in the supervision, planning, organization and scheduling the work of various craft workers such as HVAC, repair workers, carpenters, electricians, plumbers, groundskeepers ' , custodians, painters and special environmental health operations. Oversees the daily functions, operations, and activities of fleet management along with environmental health and occupational safety programs Provide supervision of staff. Oversees the functioning of all building systems including systems including mechanical, electrical, fire/life safety, plumbing, and waste management. Oversees maintenance of varied and complex equipment necessary to maintain continuity of services, which includes the development of schedules. Provide after-hour on-call duty institutional support as needed during emergencies (including during unscheduled hours and during holidays and weekends). Must be willing and able to work over a typical 40-hour work week. Assists with USG required data collec tion reporting. Provide decision support to the Director of Physical Plant on matters related to facilities management, fleet management, and environmental health and occupational safety. Monitors energy usage and assists with coordination of programs to reduce energy consumption. Maintains and manages warranties, service and contractor agreements as it relates to facilities and equipment management. Places Purchasing Card (P-Card) orders; obtains approvals, gathers order information; and places orders. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Great communication skills and positive relationships with students, faculty, staff and outside agencies. Knowledge of environmental and safety rules, regulations, and policies. Ability to conduct job site inspections to ensure compliance. Ability to coordinate daily activities including work scheduling, quality assurance, program validation, monitoring of maintenance and facility activities, and supervision of personnel. Demonstrated experience working with subcontractors/vendors and demonstrated ability to monitor project activities and ensure compliance with internal/external regulations. Must be able to communicate (verbally and via correspondence) with students, faculty, staff and campus administration. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications such as, Outlook, Excel, and Word, as well as other technology related to facilities management. Working knowledge of at least one building trades, preferably all MEP trades. Ability to follow written and verbal directions and communicate those instructions to others. Must be able to obtain a State Purchasing Card.

ABILITIES:
Ability to complete in-house construction projects on schedule.
Confers with department heads and others to plan and implement work.
Good customer relations skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work is typically performed while standing, walking, bending, crouching or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.
