What are the responsibilities and job description for the Heavy Equipment Operator 2/Driver position at Georgia state government?
Under general supervision, operates heavy construction, towing, or maintenance equipment to remove, distribute, level, pave, or grade earth or maintain traffic flow.
Job Duties:
Properly operates and maintains all assigned equipment. Monitors equipment for proper operation and continuously observes worksite for ground personnel, other heavy equipment and traffic. Avoids worksite obstructions, including heavy equipment, power lines, and ground personnel working near the equipment. Observes safety precautions and clearly indicates steering direction or pattern in order to prevent accidents. When applicable, obtains and maintains licensing and certification requirements per state or department regulations. Observes safety zones and caution areas on or around equipment while in operation. Responsible for minor repairs and maintenance to all assigned equipment.. Performs preventive maintenance (PM) on assigned equipment & maintains assigned headquarters to ensure safe & efficient use of equipment/facilities. Performs maintenance services at scheduled intervals on all assigned equipment; reports any unusual findings to supervisor/field maintenance personnel. Makes minor mechanical repairs on equipment as needed (including light welding & painting) to restore working condition of equipment, prevent rust & corrosion, and improve equipment appearance. Records all repairs & servicing in the vehicle service record as performed. Maintains a working knowledge of heavy equipment mechanisms - hydraulics, compressors, motors, electrical systems, etc. as demonstrated by PM & repair capabilities. Cleans/inspects work facilities as necessary to ensure proper maintenance & capabilities. Cleans & inspects work facilities as necessary to ensure proper maintenance & housekeeping. Reports all problems & situations of neglect to supervisor immediately. Returns materials & tools to their proper storage areas after use. Trains newer employees in correct PM schedules & techniques as established in the PM manual. Performs daily walk-around inspections to check on lights, fluid levels & tire pressure on assigned vehicles/equipment.. Assists with traffic control set up promptly and safely maintains traffic flow. Promptly reports all accidents to the appropriate department facility to ensure assistance for management of the incident and for the proper notification of law enforcement. Records the necessary information regarding emergency responses to determine the actual cost incurred as soon as practical. Responds to after hours emergency situations affecting the state route system by reporting to assigned headquarters, assembling personnel and equipment for emergency operations, and performing any duties as needed to restore normal roadway operations.
