OUR MISSION

The mission of the Georgia Student Finance Commission is to promote and increase access to education beyond high school for Georgians. To achieve this mission the commission administers state and lottery-funded student financial aid programs including the HOPE Scholarship, HOPE Grant, provides college planning and other educational services to more than 2 million Georgians through GAfutures.org. The commission seeks to improve its own operations and inform policymakers and other stakeholders through analysis, interpretation and publication of information using the extensive data collected in support of its programs.

DESCRIPTION

Under limited supervision, provides information and assistance to promote and increase access to education beyond high school for Georgians. With advanced knowledge of the Georgia Student Finance Commission (GSFC) programs and services, collaborates with high school and district staff to help students prepare and pay for college. Provides information and assistance on state and federal student financial aid to students, parents, high school staff and the general public including informational sessions and training. Develops and provides financial aid services within a defined geographic area. Exceptional presentation skills are a necessity and extensive travel is required.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES             

1.     Collaborate with high school and district staff to meet customer needs.

2.     Provide information and assistance for state and federal financial aid to students, parents and the general public.

3.     Conduct training for high school and district staff to ensure GSFC programs are implemented properly.

4.     Meet or exceed outreach performance metrics (e.g., customer visits, events, FAFSA completion).

5.     Use customer relationship management system to manage and report on activities.

6.     Utilize social media for outreach.

7.     Ensure all activities are in compliance with current and new regulations.

8.     Communicate with management regarding activities and support required.

9.     Represent GSFC at designated industry conferences and meetings.

10.  Travel extensively throughout the state; some overnight and weekends are required.

11.  Other duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The following standards express the background of education and experience as evidence of an applicant’s ability to qualify for this position.  Any combination of education and experience, if evaluated as equivalent, may qualify an applicant for this specific position.

     

Bachelor's degree in communications or a related field from an accredited college or university AND Three years of communications experience OR Six years of communications or related experience OR One year of experience required at the lower-level Communications Spec 3 (GSP042) or position equivalent. 

    

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1.     Bachelor's degree in communications or a related field from an accredited college or university AND at least three years of work experience in communications, financial aid, marketing or public relations capacity OR;

2.     Six years of communications or related work experience 

3.     2-3 years financial aid knowledge and experience in a postsecondary institution

4.     Sales and/or marketing experience

5.     Knowledge of programs administered by GSFC (HOPE, Zell Miller, etc.)

6.     Proven expertise interpreting program regulations and disseminating information in a public speaking forum

7.     Ability to think creatively, innovate and solve problems

8.     Professional demeanor with desire to learn and grow

9.     Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate effectively using a range of styles and media for different audiences

10.  Excellent project management and organizational skills with strong attention to detail

11.  Experience working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment

12.  Adaptable to changing assignments and multiple priorities

13.  Capacity to effectively manage multiple tasks simultaneously

14.  Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, PowerPoint and Excel and experience in the preparation of presentation materials

15.  Ability to travel for consecutive days throughout assigned area of the state of Georgia independently as scheduled

16.  Bilingual Spanish skills preferred

17.  Valid GA driver’s license is required
