What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mgr 1, Environmental Protection position at Georgia state government?
This position is located in the Land Protection Branch - Solid Waste Management Program's Surface Mining Unit. The unit is comprised of three (3) geologists. The successful candidate for this position will manage the Surface Mining Unit. The Unit is responsible for the permitting of surface mines which includes the review of mining land use plans. In addition, the unit also handles all compliance, monitoring, complaint investigations, and enforcement associated with surface mines in Georgia. Once surface mines are ready to close, the unit ensures that the mine has been reclaimed in accordance with the Georgia Surface Mining Act and Rules and reviews and approves the release of the mine. The unit also provides technical assistance for surface mining in Georgia.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in state, local government, or federal environmental compliance and/or enforcement programs.
Experience with the Georgia Surface Mining Act and Rules.
Experience in drafting and/or issuing permits.
