Under broad supervision, compounds and dispenses medications following prescriptions issued by physicians, dentists, or other authorized medical practitioners. Provides consultative services to both clients and health care providers. Performs job responsibilities with minimal supervision. Serves as job expert or organization resource in assigned areas. May supervise and/or direct the work of others. Collaborates with other health care professionals to plan, monitor, review, and evaluate the quality and effectiveness of drugs and drug regimens, providing advice on drug applications and characteristics. Compounds and dispenses medications as prescribed by doctors and dentists, by calculating, weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients, or oversee these activities. Maintains records, such as pharmacy files, patient profiles, charge system files, inventories, control records for radioactive nuclei, and registries of poisons, narcotics, and controlled drugs. Orders and purchases pharmaceutical supplies, medical supplies, and drugs, maintaining stock and storing and handling it properly. Provides information and advice regarding drug interactions, side effects, dosage and proper medication storage. Reviews prescriptions to assure accuracy, to ascertain the needed ingredients, and to evaluate their suitability.

Employment Requirements

FOR THIS TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT, STATE LAW REQUIRES A NATIONAL AND STATE BACKGROUND CHECK AS A CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT. 

Doctorate or professional degree in pharmacology from an accredited college or university and current Georgia license to practice pharmacology and one (1) year of professional pharmacology experience or two (2) years of experience at the lower level Pharmacist 2 (HCP151) or position equivalent.
